GM “Nightfall” Trademark Suggests Blacked-Out Chevrolet Colorado Package

News for the Motor Trend Truck of the Year-winning 2015 Chevrolet Colorado continues to get better by the week. And even though the auto industry is off for the holidays, we still have a discovery to share with you.

On December 18, 2014, General Motors filed a trademark for the word “Nightfall,” described as an “option package for a motor vehicle comprising a black exterior, black grille, black 5-inch assist steps, 18-inch aluminum wheels, polished exhaust tips, spray-in bedliner, remote start and automatic climate control.”

The filing can be found on the US Patent and Trademark Office website. We’re not sure when/if the new appearance package will launch, but it could be for the Colorado’s 2016 model year.

What leads us to believe that the Nightfall package will fold into the Chevrolet Colorado lineup? 18-inch rims is perhaps the largest giveaway. The larger 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 offer larger wheels on their high-end models, and have already announced special black-out packages already, such as the Sierra Elevation.

GMC Will Soon Offer Four Special Edition Models For 2015 Canyon

Just as is the case with the full-size 2015 Chevrolet Silverado and 2015 GMC Sierra, as well as its brother, the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, the 2015 GMC Canyon will soon roll out special trim levels and variants to broaden its appeal. And from what we gather (from dealership sources), there will soon be four different GMC Canyon styles to choose from outside the SLE and SLT trim levels between the 2015 and 2016 model years. They are as follows:

The Inevitable 2015 Canyon Denali
A 2015 GMC Canyon Denali has been hinted by executives and all-but-officially-confirmed. Like the Sierra Denali, look for body-color bumpers and mirrors, but with the signature chrome grille amplifying its presence. But it’s not just a Canyon with an appearance package. Look for the upcoming Canyon Denali to come with an exclusive powertrain, too.

A Functional “All Terrain Adventure” 2015 Canyon
The 2015 GMC Canyon launched with an All Terrain model. This is not that. A 2015 Canyon All Terrain Adventure is supposedly jam-packed with truck-bed accessories, like racks and mounts for your bike or ATV. Adventure’s out there.

A Blacked-Out “Midnight Edition” 2015 Canyon
The 2015 GMC Sierra has the Elevation trim level, which gives the full-size truck body-colored grille surround, color-keyed door handles, mirror caps, side moldings and front and rear bumpers and blacked-out wheels. Look for the 2015 Canyon Midnight Edition to offer something similar.

A Not-Quite-Denali 2015 Canyon SLT “Chrome” Edition
Because what’s a GMC truck without abundant chrome cladding? The tradition continues here.

I like blacked editions. Does anyone remember the dodge dakota night runner edition. I think gm is really doing a Great job on this new trucks.

I gotta get one of this in the future.
What is the black flap in front of the back tire? A mudflap for going in reverse? Educate me fellas.

I have the exact same question.
I'd say the flap is for aerodynamic purposes.
