Has anyone swapped out the rear axle???

I am considering swapping out the rear axle for something with 4.10s that I can get an aftermarket locker in. Has anyone tried this and found an axle that fits fairly well? I would prefer to keep the 6 lug pattern but so far it looks like my best options are going to be a 5 lug since I don't want to have to get it shortened. What has anyone else used?

If you are looking at a Nissan axle you should check out a Pathfinder axle. They were available in a locker with Disc brakes. I am in the middle of putting one in my Hardbody now. And could give you measurements.
I agree with the Nissan idea, or a yota rear. I have experience with toyota axles in my old rockcrawler rig. They are hella strong, have an amazing amount of gear ratio and locker options as well as stronger axles etc. They are like a Ford nine inch in that the whole ring and pinion, bearings etc, come out the front of the pumpkin in one piece so you can easily exchange gearsets. The aftermarket support for toyota rears is endless. The Nissan axles don't have as much aftermarket support.

Yeah if you could let me know the measurements you got out of it that would be real helpful. I'll have to look and see what aftermarket parts are available for that one. Are you using a 2005+ pathfinder or an older one?

Similar question...are you thinking of a 2005+ toyota? I haven't done a lot of research on these but I don't think there is anywhere near the same amount of aftermarket support that model as there is for the older versions before 2004. I haven't gathered any measurement info yet though to see which years would be the best fit. I'll take a look.

I was thinking pre-tacoma so 94 and older. Lots of goodies for toyota 8" rears
Depends on the application it's sourced from. Mustangs/F150 are almost exactly the same, Rangers are slightly more narrow. Only reason I know is I have a Mustang 8.8 on stands in my garage. ;)
dude you should totally do a colorado rear end swap onto your stang...that would be sick
oh yea...just kidding
I figured as much. Ford 8.8's are well built rear ends. With minimal work, damn near bulletproof to 1000hp.

The axle I am using is out of an '92 Pathfinder and its 58.5" wide

TOYOTA! Older mini's are 58" and can be had w/ 4:10' and a multitude of lockers. Also an 8".
Have the same 6, lug pattern too. Cut the spring perches off and weld to the toy axle....

DONE DEAL.
