Welcome to the Nation. Truck is looking great. What model year?
Welcome to 355Nation. Tell us more about Zip.
Hey! So it's a 2007 crew LT with the 3.7/auto, and 142k miles. 1.5" level/lift. Seems to have been well cared for, has a very intermittent cel for missfire cyl5, but runs smooth and gets 18-20 mpg. Just put some AC Delco air shocks in the back so it didn't squat so much with a couple sandbags and some tools in the bed. I put the 17" Silverado wheels on it, with 1" forged spacers, and am going to put some fender flares and a tonneau cover on it with my tax return. Other plans include a stainless mbrp touring cat back exhaust system(not loud) and a cold air intake.
I bought it as a gas sipper as compared to my 92' Ford with a 410 Windsor stroker, and my 24v Dodge, so this truck is just going to be a nice clean daily driver, with some minor upgrades, to hopefully improve mpg and a little extra power. I do remodels and building maintenance, so it will haul small loads of tools etc for work. Maybe occasionally a small box trailer with my dirtbikes and quad to the foot of the mountain. (I live in Story, near Sheridan, Wyoming, at the foot of the Bighorn mountains).
It's a great little truck so far, hoping to fix whatever is causing the cel soon, suspect a sensor. Compression is good.

Welcome to the Nation. Nice looking truck. Run it by an auto parts store. Most of them will scan it for free and the code(s) should indicate which cylinder is misfiring.

Its misfiring on cyl 5, when it's showing cel. Its pretty intermittent.
Have you tried swapping coils to see if the misfire moved to a different cylinder?

Yes.. seems after i took to a mechanic, the cam phàsers are going out. So its a pull engine and do all chains, seals, phasers, and possibly bottom end bearings.. he quoted 3500$.....
do rings and head too

Ok fellas. I have more questions.. lol. Bilstein 5160 shocks for an 07 Silverado, will they fit?? Also, does anyone have a link for good polyurethane front swaybar bushings and brackets?

You have a 2007, 3.7, with only 142,000 miles that "seems to be well cared for". The issue is a #5 cylinder misfire and the diagnosis is a $3500 repair or and engine change? Sounds a bit odd, but it's your truck and your money.

Actually about 9 codes showing on proper scan tool. Cam phasers, timing out of spec, missfire, balance out of spec, low voltage in cam and crank sensors, low oil pressure at idle... Bare minimum, needs timing and balance chains and sprockets, and cam phasers, along with several new sensors. Mechanic quoted 3500$ parts and labor. A new reman engine is 42-4500$, and 500$ for engine swap. So my choice is 3500$ to keep this possibly tired engine running, or a warranted reman for 5k. The rest of the truck seems to be in excellent condition. So to me it seems the extra 1500$ for a 0 mile reman may be worth the expense.

That all said, at this point, i may just run this engine until it blows or quits and then do the reman swap. What's to lose, right? Although, at 142k, i would have to think that this engine isn't mechanically hurt.
Hi
Welcome!
I'm new as well. Hope to find like-minded people here

Okay, I'm going ti have one last post on the subject of the engine.

You initially stated that the engine ran smooth with an intermittent misfire on #5. I assumed that meant you either have or had access to a scan tool in order to determine which cylinder was misfiring.

Now, after the report of a hefty repair bill and a possible decision to replace the engine, there is a confusing clarification.
1. What is a proper scan tool? If you used a scan tool that provided you with the P0305, it should have picked up all the other codes.
2. A sticking phaser (or Camshaft Position Actuator as they are called in these trucks) will cause a rough running engine at idle, not a smooth engine. There is only one on this engine.
3. Balance out of spec? Have no idea what that means.
4. Low voltage in Cam and Crank sensors? A good chance the engine wouldn't run.
5. Low oil pressure? Did the mechanic say what it was? Service Spec is 12 psi @ 1200 rpm. That ain't much.

If the engine took a crap, this soon after purchase, you got taken. Maybe a second opinion?

Okay, I'm done. 🙂 🙂 🙂
