Hood Insulator

22294 Views 49 Replies 28 Participants Last post by  05colorado5spd
During the fall foliage ride in NH, Old guy was showing us his 5.3L in his '09 Colorado. Noticed that he had a factory black hood insulator under the hood and it looks like we all have the mounts for it. Dressed it up nice under the hood, anyone know the part number for this? I've searched all over but can't find it anywhere.

if you werent far away id give you mine. since i put the cowl hood i left the insulator off so it can extract heat and DAMN does it work great!
Holy shit, I'd appreciate that...never thought about it but does it affect performance at all by keeping heat in? Do you think it could be shipped or is it too stiff? I'd gladly pay you sumthin'.
fyi...

Hey thanks alot Rich, Old guy mentioned that he thought you had looked into it at one time.

:wavey:

Just looked at GMPartsDirect...They've got it for $45.07
I wouldn't mind one of these either...though I'm not sure if there's too much point to it aside from quieting the engine noise and somewhat protecting your paint from heat....?

You will also need the plastic tabs that secure it to the hood. I haven't been able to track down the part number for those.
I don't know if they'll fit but they've got a couple different sizes of those at my local Advance Auto.

And really the only reason I'm lookin' for it is cuz it really dressed up under the hood. Looked alot more finished than just the open steel.

You do actually drive this truck right? Lol. It's always so clean.
dang that looks good, i didnt even know they made these....does it help alot? have u driven the truck with out it?
GMPartsDirect wants about $110 to ship a $45 Hood Insulator!!! Ridiculous!!

:lmaowtf: Didn't check that far b4. That fuckin' ridiculous!
I've had one on my 07 Canyon 3.7 a couple years now. I haven't noticed any heat problems what so ever. As far as the plastic clips any GM dealer can hook you up with some. I don't remember the cost now but I know they weren't very much.

Plus the push in plugs to hold it in place Rich. I'm sure they have a GM part number too. If your not a numbers matching guy, they can be bought at most auto parts stores, but you'll need the wide headed plugs. :yup:

I should have read the rest of the posts before adding to this thread. I see it's all been covered. Sorry.
why would you want to insulate your engine compartment?
keeping it warm makes it burn cleaner however lower air temps in the engine compartment means lower intake temps
because it makes the truck look a little more classy than it was stock
An alternative:
Super Soundproofing Hoodliner

Won't look as good, won't look as "factory fitted" as the GM piece, but should look great if carefully cut and installed, and will provide the acoustic insulation benefits.
