Project Name
Supermod LED Tails

Project Description
Installing Supermod LED tails and reverse bulbs

Skill Level
Moderate

Project Vehicle
Make: Chevrolet
Model: Colorado
Year: 2006
Engine: 3.5L
Power windows: Yes
Sun Roof: No

Tools Needed
#2 Phillips Screwdriver
Wire Strippers
Wire Crimpers
Wire Cutters
Heat shrink or Electrical tape
Slip-joint pliers

Project Time
1 hour or less

Project Cost
Contact Supermod for pricing

Start by removing the the 2 screws that hold in the tail light with a #2 phillips

Once removed twist out the sockets from the housing

Slide the split loom back so you can expose the wires of the harness

With the kit Supermodulation includes a "Y" shaped isolator that separates the running lights from each other. It contains diodes which prevent electrical feedback to the other side of the tails.

Cut the two brown wires that are located on the middle socket.

The middle brown wire in the socket attaches to the short side of the isolator.

The brown wire located at the top socket attaches to the long side of the isolator.

The outside brown wire on the middle socket will get capped off because it is not needed anymore

The single side of the isolator goes to the brown wire then goes back into the factory harness.

Installed

Next is to install the resistor pack. There are 2 wires that need to be tied into the turn signal circuit to control the blinking rate

On the passenger side you will separate the Green and Black wire that come from the harness and into the middle socket.

On the Driver side you will separate the Yellow and Black wire that come from the harness and into the middle socket

There are quick splice tees that will be used to install the resistor into the circuit.

Passenger side installed

Next is to install the bulbs. They are marked which side is positive

Once installed in the sockets you will need to use a small drop of super glue to hold them into the socket.

I let the super glue dry for about 30 minutes, because if not allowed to dry properly the fumes from the glue could cloud the inside of you lens

Once dry reinstall the sockets back into the light housing. Reinstall the screws for the housing and enjoy

Nice heath
Looks great and Thank You Heath for the How-To :th_woot:

These LED's were intended for those that are going to tint their taillights.
The Biggest and brightest LED's to fit in our tails.

Thank You Rich and Tim for helping me BETA test them to! :D
very detailed how to, i got to have these and so many other supermods!
I thought I've read previously that LED tails have worked improperly when a trailer is connected -- is this true?

I wouldn't mind doing this option (especially with the throw of the reverse bulbs), but it it's going to go all batshitty when I hook up a trailer, I'll just use brighter bulbs (another member had a write-up on how to get brighter filament bulbs -- drawback is they run hotter, but I don't have the heat problem).

With my LED tail light kit you will retain the OEM tail light circuit and not have any issues with your trailer harness how ever if you are using different bulbs that are drawing more current then oem, I can see you having issues.

James did you ever get my text regarding the reverse bulb LEDs? I was wondering if i could use them with my TYC tails since they retain factory reverse... thanks.

any update on reverse bulbs for the tails i got james?

if you need a test-dummy i will be more than willing at the next meet
Are those red LED's in there or white LED's? I saw red led's in someone else's led conversion and was wondering what the reasoning was going to red over just white since the taillights are red and would turn the white to red.
Because the LEDs are so bright I assume they would look almost pink with the red lens
:bump:
