Hub centric is best for any application when possible as this allows for a better fitment and typically better ride (shakes) whereas lug centric is purely relying on the wheel nuts to center. Hub rings are an option that assist in making the lug centric application to hub centricsince this is essentially a spacer to take up the void area from the wheel bore to hub diameter.
Gorilla Automotive makes hub centric rings. I've had them on my dd for 60k+ miles with no issues. Just when rotating the tires, which I do myself, I have to watch for them either sticking to the wheel or usually the hub.
