Doing my first brake check on the vehicle since i got it 8 months ago and both bottom caliper slide pins were rusted in place. Is this normal for our trucks? Now granted the vehicle is 8 years old and came from new york but I have no idea. I've just replaced both caliper brackets and slide pins today.

Pretty common place for 8-yrs of road wear, salt, moisture and heat/cool cycles. Just did the fronts on my daughter's 06 Cobalt and they were welded on too.

There is no such thing as normal when it comes to rust. But considering the winter conditions for New York I'm not surprised to see it on an 8 year old vehicle.

But your 'breaks' looks like they are going to 'break'.

allright thats kind of what i thought. Didnt know if it was something comon like the wheel wells rusting out on the 2000s silverados. But for a little less then $100 i replaced both sides.
