My Project

Well I started out with a stock 08 Colorado 2.9 manual. The things I have done to it so far are the supersparkz, ptb, super 44 muffler, Dual "ram" air intake ( 2 hoses that feed air from under the headlights through a crack plus stock air fender outlet), AEM dry filter, resonator delete, and truck bed cover. I will post more pictures later when I can take some. I want to do much more over the next few years when I have more money so it will be a long project! Here is a picture of my friend welding in the muffler for me:

I was suprised he wasn't faster. And thanks to @LLV.MA5 I have my first part for my turbo project. It looks great thanks! And a pic of the truck washed and waxed a few days ago.

Re: My Project (Start of Turbo Build?)

I got a screw in one of my front tires so I decided to get 2 new tires. They needed to be changed anyway. So the rears when to the front and these are on the back. Now Ill wait a while and get another 2 to match. They are Goodyear Wrangler Armortracs.

Re: My Project (Start of Turbo Build?)

I was going to replace them later this month but the screw got to it first.

The rears looked way better.
Could probably still get 20k+ miles out of them, but I like all 4 matching tires, so later this year I'll do that.

I made some brackets for rear tow hook this weekend and tested out the traction bars I got. They work. I also got a box of pipe from a coworker that has aluminum and steel pipe. It also came with some chevy small block header flanges. Does anyone want them? I'll sell them.

Re: My Project (Updated Pictures)

Little update:

I installed a kill switch and it works. I will help @ryley911 at some point to put one in his, but I have an idea that may be a bit cooler and even better.

I also painted my calipers the same color I painted my muffler. It's an aluminum vht high temp spray paint. It's subtle but looks good. Not flashy or anything.

I also updated my whole build thread with larger pictures. No more clicking to see each one bigger. :D

Went to the track with ryley.

My best time was a 16.72 with a 10-15 mph headwind. Mind you this is at a 5400 ft track with a density altitude of about 8000 ft. That should make the truck run an estimated 15.1 at sea level. I also beat a stock 4.6 mustang gt. He ran a 16.77. I was pleasantly surprised he said he didn't miss 3rd. Stock those 4.6's are rated at 260. If he launched better he could have beat me though. haha
I also saw this beauty. It didnt run though.. I wanted to see it go down the track.

Re: My Project (Updated Pictures)

Glad to hear your kill switch project got finished up!

Damn, our little trucks kick ass on the track :lmao:
Re: My Project (Updated Pictures)

Haha They don't really do too much on the track except for the occasional stock vehicle. It will be a lot quicker when I put a turbo on it...It will probably be more than a year before that happens though. Ill make it look nicer since that has to be put on the backburner for now. I need a house and another daily to start the turbo build.

Since that is a long while from now I'm wanting to focus on aesthetics: different tails, new wiper cowl, a custom tonneau cover I'm going to make with a custom electromagnet locking system ( no mechanical linkage :naughty: ), coat where the tonneau cover will rest in white mostaliner (the paint wore some), restore the wheel well liners, debadge a little, touch up the frame and exhaust, etc, and possibly if I have more money (doubtful) get a cervinis hood. Maybe a few other things I can think of later on before the turbo.

Well put it this way:

Ford designed a car to be fast and sporty with a dohc v8 engine. GM designed our trucks to be the little shit child continuation of the s-series (that turned out to form our awesome community) with a dohc four cylinder (in your case). On paper that ford should have won, but our trucks are surprising like that :lmao:

Sounds like you have some fun plans coming up :) Looking forward to seeing that tonneau cover. I have one more project coming up (after the efan, valve cover gaskets, new spark plugs again, intake manifold gaskets, and a full check up on the top end while im that far in) that is kind of on the down low for the time being.
Re: My Project (Updated Pictures)

I'm looking forward to the tonneau cover. I'm going to use my current one as a mold for some fabric fiberglass. I would do carbon fiber but its expensive. It should lay up the same as CF. It's going to be a lot of work but I think it will be worth it. Not the cheapest route but I like it way more than buying another cover or restoring the one I have, plus this one will be much lighter than an aftermarket fiberglass cover. It will have CF tube for strength/structure though since that is not too expensive and very light. I've worked with CF tube so that will be the easy part. I'm gonna shoot for an overall weight of about 40-50 lbs.

I saw a key switch in true value last week which lead to the idea of using electromagnets. It's simple, effective, and would be easy to implement. I just need to find out how much power it would consume.
Re: My Project (Updated Pictures)

I wont really be going into details in this thread on the turbo but I'll post important pictures when things are being put together and other mods as well. Turbo stuff will be in a thread I started in the forced induction section.

I'll post a few pictures of the turbo here later today. I'm really excited about this.

I did happen to finally debadge the gm squares on the doors. Came off easily and looks much better.

This guy should be going on soon.
I also used the rest of my sound deadener in the cab and there is a little less drone, which is nice.

Re: My Project (Updated Pictures)

The old bushings had small cracks near the ID. It seems to handle better although I have not pushed the truck yet. Overall I'm happy. Now I just need to get a rear sway bar and I'm sure it will handle even better. I also installed new reverse lights. They are the ddm ones that everyone says are bright. They are brighter than the ones I had on.

Re: My Project (Updated Pictures)

Can't wait for that turbo, it's gonna be good. I should check my bushings, I haven't looked at them since I got the truck
Re: My Project (Updated Pictures)

If they need replacing these are only about 20 on amazon.

The plan is to get the turbo manifold done next summer. I need to get a chop saw and a bottle of argon and mig wire. Then all that's left is the easy part. Then I need to get another daily. It may be til 2017 before I actually have everything up and running. I'm so tempted to just put it all together and not drive it hard until I have another daily.. but I think that would be a little hard to do.

Does anyone want to buy a car and a house for me? lol
Re: My Project (Updated Pictures)

I feel you. I was stoked when I got the colorado as a daily driver because that meant my Jeep was now my toy! You'll get there eventually :)
