hey family i am in need of wisdom from the wise wizards of the v8 world. my dad gave me an LS engine for a project of mine but i can't seem to identify it with what i know. here are some pics.

what i have found from my own investigations is that i believe it's out of a truck due to it's larger sized intake, and from it's three hole-mounted throttle body i believe it's an earlier style LS engine. for the life of me i can't seem to decipher the stampings. these are all the pictures i have of it so if more are needed i'll have to ask my dad to send some since it's still with him. any help would be appreciated.

Aluminum or steel block? check on the back It is written 4.8, 5.3 or 6.0. Send a picture of what is stamped on the block.

If 243 heads, you have the HO 5.3 which is the gen3 equivalent of the LH8.

The Casting Number for a LS Series Block is located on the rear of the block just below the drive side head. (See Image) However, occasionally the cast number may be located on the Passenger Side. The last 3 or 4 digits of a head's casting number are located on the lower-right side of the head. (See Image)

Ask your daddy to check the heads casting numbers, written on the top, side of both heads. And voila.

Kind of a rare engine if it's a L33. only available 2005-2007 on 4wd 1500s

Nope. L33 was just a high output version of the LM4. The LM4 is an aluminum block version of the LM7. These are Gen III GM small block engines.

That's what i'm getting from what i'm reading. I can hope it's the L33 but even if it's just the LM4 I doubt it'll have a single problem getting this up to speed :D ;)
