Alright guys, my name is Mike, and I'm a long time lurker to the board, but have owned my 2005 Z71 Ext Cab Colorado with the L5 for almost 6months now. Well, now i believe that the rear main seal is leaking. And leaking bad. The underside of the truck is coated in oil, and its only letting me run about half the amount of oil while i drive it around. Oil light isnt on, but if i have to do a hard brake, the message center will flash check oil then go away. No CEC and no pending codes from scan gauge.

Has anyone had to have there's replaced before? Whats the rough cost of it? When having it replaced should i have the mechanic check for other issues? Should i just look for a new motor? Or should i cut my loss' and sell the rig? Thoughts?

I had the dealership just replace mine two weeks ago for little over three hundred and something. Prob alot cheaper to do it yourself but im mechanically inclined.
That's not a bad price at all. I have all the tools and the space to do it myself, I just don't have the time or the proper space to do it cleanly.

Also how Many miles was yours at when you had it done? How bad was the leak?
