How hard to correct/how much time invested vs having a shop do it?

Anything else I should look for? Slow leak but I want it gone as soon as possible.

Also, how crazy is it to consider going to 4.10's while that thing is open? Pinching pennies until September so if it's too much coin it gets pushed to 2015.

Not crazy, they have to do half of the work to replace the seal. You'll just have the extra labor of pulling the carrier to put the new ring gear on.

You can do it yourself.
I found it easier to keep the rear wheels on the ground or on ramps to prevent from spinning.

GM uses a loctite in the splines. You will need a Puller!

So, here's a weird one.

Apparently the rear U Joint is starting to seize up and that's what makes the grinding noise occasionally when stopping. Sent the drive shaft out for new U joints and a drive shaft clean and balance from a pro shop that does it locally.

Didn't see that coming, it was totally silent when accelerating and at speed..no squeaks and no shimmy. Weird. Bell housing was full when they got the plug out (yep I need a new one, less than a year old and rusted solid).

It's not the "proper" way but you could change the seal without even busting the diff cover.

Apparently no leak, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time. 10 years/230k on the rear end and my G80 still locks up and releases as designed.
