So for the guys that know or have experience would gutting the cat on a 2.8 I4 be comparable to a header? Meaning would the money it cost for a header return a big enough difference over gutting the cat? Assume truck will be tuned with either route. Thanks, I'm about to gut the cat but if a significant difference can be had with a header I would get a header instead.

No. Don't do it. Save the time and frustration of gutting the cat by doing the job the right way and getting the header that suits your needs.

I gutted, I regret it.

I would honestly say to go with a header. You won't have the tinny/pinging almost exhaust leak sound that you get from gutting the cat. I had my i5 cat gutted before I installed my KPE header and I want to say I still noticed a slight increase in power. It also looks much nicer lol

I would like to say any of the shorty/stock replacements should work since they just replace your stock manifold however they could take more/less space due to pipe arrangement/bends.

Does anyone know for sure?

The side by side of the JTR and the stock manifold look like they are in a similar shape.

ya the stock ones for sure but if i remember right i think the jtr also does there was talk of it but that was years ago
I think the JTR long tube requires some hammering to fit a 4WD or 2WD torsion bar truck.
