I didn't do that part. Had my Mechanic do that. My electric Impact would not remove the Pinion nut, so I left that for the mechanic. When I got it back it was already assembled and ready to put back in the truck.

Update for everyone, unit has all new brakes now, using a hard line scavenged from a wrecking yard find. It is ready to install as soon as my trusted welder gets back from a pipeline refit job so we can set the perches and shock mounts. I just don't trust anyone else. I had hoped for it to be in the truck already, but, it isn't yet.
Any pics?

So for an update, the new rear axle has had some technical difficulties and is back in the shop and yet to be installed. I am working on getting the front axle. Furthermore, my long lasting 3.5 I-5 is on its last leg. It is drinking a quart of oil a week. Some is leaking out the rear main and some is going out the tail pipe.

Last week I purchased a use 90xxx mile 5.3 from a 2003 Yukon. I will be swapping in this motor in the near future, and hoping to finish the suspension and axles buy April 1st 2023. I will have to wait a little longer for the transfer case and the drive shafts to complete the 4x4. But, by July to August 2023, I should be completely done with the swap and the SAS and adding 4x4.

Look next month for pictures of getting the motor ready for the swap.

Well, the weekend had its ups and downs. I headed out to Orlando on Saturday morning to get my LS. About 12 miles short of the destination the the I-5 3.5 developed a skip, miss, misfire in the number 4 cylinder. Tried a new plug and a new coil but that did not fix the issue. So. I loaded up the 5.3 and drove it all the way home, 276 miles, on 4 cylinders. Got decent fuel mileage, around 17 and ran 70 all the way home on 4 cylinders. I kept having to reset the code with the scan gauge so I did not end up in limp mode. So, now to decide if we spend money trying to diagnose the misfire or just start the swap and spend all that money at once instead of over time. Stay tuned!

So the engine swap is being prepared. I am gathering parts. The truck is parked and my wife and I are sharing her vehicle. That is a fun activity! The truck may be going to the shop to see if my mechanic can diagnose something I cannot via his Tech 2. More updates later.

So, I burned and chipped a valve in the 3.5. The scope picture is attached. It is now full speed ahead with an LS swap. 3.5 and the transmission are out of the truck. Now I have to get the truck home so I can work on it to get it ready for the LS. More pictures coming.

Update on the Swap...

The Harness is ordered from CPW. I have sent them the ECM and TCM for programming for the Swap. I got my new injectors, Fuel rails from a 2003 Suburban showed up. My Badland Industries motor mounts showed up also. The wiring harness is 10 weeks out, so I am gathering other parts as I find them. I have coils and brackets on the way. Hopefully Sunday coming up I will be in the shop doing some paint removal and cleaning of the heads and block. I will post more pictures. The engine and Transmission are out of the truck and I have to go and get the truck from the shop to bring home so I can work on it. Also have to get the transmission off to the transmission shop..

Latest update. I have the wiring harness. I have cleaned up the engine bay and have my motor mounts ready to install, after I trim the frame mounts, in the truck, for fit. I am doing some painting on the engine and installing some of the accessories and will be test fitting in a week or two. I will get pictures this weekend of progress. Coming together and hope to be back on the road by Mid March, if not before.

New update! The transmission is off to the shop on Friday to have the input shaft, stator tube, Bellhousing and new converter installed. The engine should be in the truck by the time it is ready and then we do the fuel lines, AC, and electrical and then fire it up. Hoping for the 1st or 2nd week of March.

Latest update. 18 years of grime under the hood and on the paint under the hood is taking more cleaning than I was prepared to do. The paint in the engine bay has a dingy dirty look that will not come off with anything I have tried. Everything from foaming degreaser to WD40. Several soaps and even a bit of cleaner wax. With that said, The engine is ready to be placed in the engine bay. The transmission is ready to occupy the tunnel and that should be hopefully be done in the next couple weeks. Then adding accessories and the wiring and fire the ol'girl up. I will post pictures soon!

Motor is in the truck and headers are on. Had to ding my drivers side header a little bit to clear the motor mount, not enough to mater though. Will start wiring it Sunday!
