Swap v8 rear end to 07 i5

as the title states, wondering if any one has swap a v8 8.6" rear axle to an older truck that has a 8" axle.

I have 07 Xtreme 3.7 with a g80 3.73 and I've found a local 2009 zq8 v8 wrecked truck with a g80 4.10 8.6" rear end. first off is worth switching to 4.10 from 3.73 ? I only drive the truck in the summer and fuel Mileage isn't a big deal... planing to go to the strip and auto-x the odd weekend so the bigger gears should help, correct? 4.10 would be quicker off the line compared to 3.73 but would it be noticeable since I'll have stock tire size ? I know people with lifted trucks and huge tires like 4.10 cause brings there Rpms back down so you can cruise on the highway.

so back to the question, is it worth to switch to the bigger gears? I also like how the 8.6" is strong which is always nice too. if so how much work is required? from research it seems both are 61" wide but the shock mounting places are didn't from each ? could some maybe post a picture for a zq8 8.6" rear axle so I could compare?

also would the gauges from the 09 work in my 07 ? I know my speedo only goes up to 180kph(110mph) compare to the 220kph I think ? (130mph)

thanks in advance to anyone to who can help!

It should be a direct swap if you swapping the whole axle assembly.

- I cannot remember why, but the V8 aka 130 gauge clusters will not work
- if you go from 3.73 to 4.10; you will need to have a tune done.....for several reasons
- yeah, it will be quicker off the line.....but you'll wind out quicker and if you highway drive it at all......you might find it mildly annoying
doesn't the shock mounts also change, instead of being both behind the axle, the passenger side one goes to the front?

Si, my rear shocks are on opposite sides.

yeaa complete axle assembly, also would the leafs be the same as my 07 Xtreme leafs? can't hurt to have any extra set when they start to sag..

a tune is will be happening within a couple months so that's why I'm considering the swap to 4.10's. and would it be that big of a difference on the highway? I do a little highway and do wanna be able to take the odd road trip but ifs only a few hundred higher rpm on the highway I'm okay with that
One question I've always had is it would mess with your mileage reading correct. Meaning the the miles on the truck will be off if driven a long time without calibration?
@Uncanny355

Yes, the mileage, speedo and tach will all be off.
Thanks for that. I've been curious but was worried it was kinda obvious. Thanks for not being a dick about it
