So, I have an '04. The tailgate has some pretty bad rust/dent/bondo problems in one area, so I went out and bought one off Craigslist as it's in way nicer condition and will be cheaper to make look good. Anyways, it's an '07, and the hinge parts that are attached to the tailgate stick out past the bottom lip of the gate, enough to be visible. The ones on my tailgate that came with the truck are flatter, so they don't stick down. Looks sort of tacky if you ask me, wondering why it's like that. Did I buy an aftermarket tailgate, are the hinges not original, or did GM change the design between 2004 and 2007?

Pics would help, but I don't think there were any changes on any of the sheet metal parts through the years.

The part numbers for the hinges and the endgate panel are all same throughout the years....

I never knew that they made a stepside.

So, I'm assuming that the silver ones are just bent... The ones on the red gate look like they do in the parts breakdown. Thanks for finding all of those diagrams for me, by the way

Yeah, that's what I'll do. I'm going to get the silver one painted Victory Red, should I leave the hinges off during painting, and leave the hinges how they come, or put them on and get them painted with the tailgate?

Would you specifically ask them to paint the hinges? My friend replaced his recently and he just left them how they came

Good point, thanks for all the help! I'll update it with the results of comparing them tomorrow

At the factory the hinges were mounted on the tailgate before final painting. I removed one of mine for mod and the paint under it was primer. The hinges shouldn't be protruding below the bottom of the tailgate.

Thanks mods for moving the thread to its proper section, still getting used to this category setup. I compared them both today, and they are definitely bent. The cups are supposed to be spaced away from the tailgate a good bit, but they're almost touching. Not sure why they'd be like that, as the tailgate is literally brand new, just been sitting in a shed for 7 years. It's weird that they would prime underneath it, but not paint it. I'll probably have it painted without them on, then either have them paint them separately, or just do those myself.
