Using Ultragauge - High ECM Voltage, not all the time

Hello,

I got a Ultragauge a few weeks ago, still trying to figure it out and get it setup as I would like. However, from the beginning, I keep getting a 'ECM Voltage to high' warning. Not sure of the exact wording.

Specifics:

- I do not get the error all the time
- Voltage has been as high as 15.4 volts, often over 15.0 (warning threshold is 14.9 I think)
- The ECM voltage and the UG voltage are always very close in value
- I get the warning right away when I start the 2010 Colorado cold in the morning. I have a garage so the pickup is probably at about 50 degrees before.
- When starting cold, the warning will persist for over 20 minutes of driving
- The other times when I can, though not always, get the warning is when after warmed up, the pickup is idling for a while.
- Other than when starting cold, I do not seem to get the warning while driving
- Voltage at other times is between 13.3 and 14.x.
- There are no error codes and it drives and operates fine.

I have only had the Colorado about 500 miles. I have no service history and it has about 54K miles total.

I think I could adjust the warning threshold levels so I would not get the warning, but, is the warning really showing a problem?

Separately, who has the Ultragauge MX? I bought it to try and get the tran temp. So far all I get is a non-changing 32 degrees, which is even colder than the whole vehicle gets in the garage.

Anyway of getting the oil pressure with the ultragauge??

Thanks

Had same problem, that's what I ended up doing, Ultra-Guage support, well, "Sucks"

Tried submitting similar question to support and answer was basically "good luck you are on your own."

Just to be clear. I do not have a problem with the Ultragauge, I just wanted people to know what was reporting the possible issue of the "ECM Battery Voltage" warning msg.

Ronvc,

When you say you 'had the same problem', do you mean that you were getting the same warning msg showing a ECM voltage of over 14.9? If so, this is probably normal for the Colorado (2010, I5). That is what I have been assuming, but wanted to make sure.

Further info. Today, starting cold, only got the warning msg a few times and then was gone until I got where I was going. I did not idle much there, but got a few warning msgs then. Drove home and when I got home I decided to do some more observations. I started to get the warning msg right away while idling in my driveway. Warning msgs continued for about 12 +/- minutes with the voltage showing 15.3 to 15.5 volts. It stayed there, and then the voltage started to drop. It dropped into the 14's over the course of a few minutes (at most) and then stabilized around 13.9 to 14.3 at idle.

Anybody else have similar experience?

Yes, and just raised the alarm level to 15.9 to remove/discontinue seeing the "false" alarm.
Without any real help/assistance from Ultra-Guage, you are on your own for support.....
I have raised the alarm level but don't remember what I have raised it to.

I get an alert once in a while.
I have had to replace the battery and since then I've still received the alarm.
Thanks guys.

You confirmed my suspicion that this 'warning' is not really a problem.

Like I said, I just got the Ultrgauge MX, if I figure out how to get additional gauges to work, I will post in a new thread.

Thanks again.
Interesting....

As stated before, I have not had my 2010 CO very long, probably about 1000 miles or so by now. Have had the Ultragauge for less than half that.

Earlier in the week, I noticed that after turning off the truck, the voltage started dropping down to 11.9 or so relatively quick, less than 5 minutes. This was new (I think) I always thought that voltage would stay around 12.5 or so starting a few hours after the vehicle had shut off.

So, I got a new battery. Old battery appeared to be the original one. Voltage is NOT dropping down after shutting off the pickup (still 12.5 or so 1/2 later), AND, the ECM Voltage Warnings have gone away, except for a few beeps right on startup. No sure what is going on here, or was going on with the old battery, or ......

Just thought I would put this out there in case anyone else had something similar.

my Scanguage shows 14.2/14.6. Sometimes in overnight cold start 15.1-15.3V. 2007,2.9L reg bed, yellow. I've heard they need 13.6 to survive.
Well I am consistently getting in the low 13.x after getting the new battery. I will look at the accessories belt next. Is this the sign of an alternator going out? How hard is it to change the alternator?

Thanks
