You now need to drill out 1 of the non foulers using a 1/2" drill bit. When finished this is what it will look like.

The idea behind it is when you remove the cat the 2nd O2 sensor is going to have too much air reaching the sensor that isnt filtered out, which will make the computer think the cat has gone bad. What this does is it moves the O2 sensor further away so only a limited amount of exhaust gets to the O2 sensor, it is a VERY little ammount that actually gets to the sensor but as long as it is considerably less than the primary O2 sensor then it will not cause a CEL or Check Engine Light.

PS- After talking to thestoprule about his problem (running no cats at all) with a CEL. Using two non foulers didnt do the trick so he added a third non fouler making the O2 sensor further away and it looks likt it did the trick.

Hell Yea.......diggin shit up!

So what's the skinny on having to do this? I saw that most people say that they don't get a CEL when gutting the 1st cat. Are they just lucky? Have other people had to do this, hence the write up, or were you just throwing it out there "just in case" someone were to get a light?

I just did this except instead of cutting out the cat i just cut right next to the cat and gutted it.... I put two non foulers but I'm still getting a CEL should I get one more non fouler

I cut my 2nd cat off the day I got my truck and never had any problems, is it different because I have a 4cyl? So if I hollow out my first cat I wont need any foulers? I thought for sure I would need them on the manifold cat?

Not because you have a 4 cyl but because you have a 2007 and the secondary cat is not monitored.

Yes, you will need them on the 2007 manifold cat, it is monitored.

:salute:

Of coarse Al Gore says no but really is global warming an issue really?

If the o2 sensor is before the cat in the manifold on your 4cly like the 5cly are then you wont need any. But since you gutted your second cat allready you may throw a check engine light for the rear o2 sensor when you do the manifold cat. If that's the case just do the o2 sensor trick.

The o2 sensor mod is universal so it should work on just about anything.

Re: How-To: Install An O2 Sensor Non Fouler to Eliminate a Check Engine Light with Pi

Hi Guys. Thanks to all for posting the on the cheap fix. I just replaced the engine, and a 9 year old cat back system on a 99 S10 4.3 4X4 PU. Went with a "test pipe", Threw a code at about 40 miles. Bought the anti-foulers and milled the top one to .500. The original O2 sensor was larger. .525 to be exact. When I milled it out slightly larger to .5625 the outer non-fouler broke off. The fix was to clean the mating surfaces up and silver solder the two together. If I have to add another, or make one, I'll go ahead and silver solder first and then mill it out. Hope this helps someone.

i've hit a snag trying to do this. i replaced my O2 sensors, both pre and post cat, thinking they were bad as the stealership told me. this was about 3 months ago and i've since thrown the old ones out. the replacements ones are bosch and have a larger diameter probe so they won't fit into the anti-foul, even a 1/2" drilled out one.

would fitting some washers on the probe and then screwing it in possibly work? if i drill out the anti-foul to the size of the new probe, i'll be drilling the end off of it. i can get a hold of another oem one from the stealership parts dept but they want 80$ for it and since i just bought the bosch one i really don't want to go that route. i'm not noticing any performance issues (aside from some trans problems but thats another issue) but, the CEL is driving me INSANE, i can't stand having the damn thing on.

No not yet I just went and bought another non fouler I'll give that a shot and let you guys know...thanks

Just put in 3 and still throwing a cel.... Anybody have any ideas? What kind of tuners are there? Or what's the best tune company?

Sorry just stressin I really don't like having the check engine light on

Yes its a 2.8, and yes i installed the non foulers on the rear most o2 sensor... and the code it through last night and just now was P0420... cleared it again

The first non fouler i drilled out and the rest i left alone just screwed them all together
