Ya the price is no problem, I just don't think it would be a huge deal if its used or not. I guess it's still taking a chance. Don't ever want to change it again haha

I took mine off once to clean my fuel injectors, when i looked inside it was coated with all kinds of awesome trash... anyhow without the inner fenders its not too bad, I had full access to the starter, I never could find it till then lol!

so for future reference, i dont have an engine hoist, so i should be able to remove the starter by taking off the fender lining and the intake manifold?

id go along with the lifting of the side of the engine. sounds like itd be easyer but id be careful not to lift it too much. i could see it goin bad realy quick. id say salvage yard would be ok if u got a low milage starter

with the fender wells in, it would be a task getting it out. I still can't get it yet with my fender wells out. taking the plastic off wont do much to help I don't think. You would be best taking off the intake or finding a friend with a hoist or buying/making one. There not THAT expensive. BTW dealership wants a grand to change it.

If you don't have a hoist you might be able to get away with a jack under the oil pan to lift the engine a little, you'd have to be careful though and I'd recommend something between the jack and oil pan to make sure the weight is distributed evenly across the bottom of it. You mainly need to pay attention to the passenger rear of the engine when lifting up the driver's side, make sure you don't crush anything into the firewall. It doesn't make it a cakewalk to get the manifold out but it gives you a couple extra inches to get your hands/ratchet in there so it doesn't seem impossible at least.

I guess now that I think of it the engine block sticks out from that side blocking access to the starter from underneath. That's the side of the engine that the balance shafts are on.

holy shit $1000 to change a starter!!!! thats total nonsense! the one on my cherokee shit out every 6-10 months i had to do it 3 times! it was done without even a jack though lol just crawl under, drop it down, install new.

thats insane.... guess if i have to do this i'll be trackin down a buddy and a haynes repair manual.

Ya, I would just take it to the dealer so I wouldn't have to mess with it but I can't bring my self to pay a grand for a fucking starter.

I'd consider the option of finding a nice sized hill to park on every time I had to turn the truck off if my starter went out.

I got the bitch off! I had to pry on it and wiggle it back and forth but finally I got it out. Now I just need to buy a new one and put it in. Should be done by friday!

Why do you need a new one?

The terminal is destroyed and I would try to just repair the terminal, but one, it looks rusty as shit, two, its a pain in the ass to get off, so I would feel better putting on a new one.

Oh. I thought you were still talking about the manifold.

so which approach did you take??
takeing the motor mount bolt out and lifting with a hoist, or jacking the oil pan, or going through the fender well?

can i ask maybe a dum question when my starter goes out and the manifold gotta come out would it be a good idea to port the manifold to while its out? i am getting ready to do the cat 1 delete on my 06 4cyc and also porting the exhaust header while its out.
