AR-15 or Lift?

First off this is my first post, I've used this site thousands of times for everything from lowering my first Colorado to stripping the bolts to my thermostat housing on my second Colorado trying to change that out, haha. I have a 2004 z85 crew cab 4x4 with a 3.5, everything stock besides the plastics wich were painted to match. I bought an Ar-15 back in December right before I deployed to Afghanistan because of the scare, not knowing wether they would be banned or not before I got back. That was my toy I sprung for on this deployment, but now I really want to throw a 3" body lift on with with a tb crank and rear shackles.

So here's my question, should I just keep the AR-15 and save for the lift, which would be about another year from now, or sell the AR, buy and install both lifts on my truck? Don't have money for wheels and tires now so it would look retarded for a while until I could find some on craigslist, or wherever. I live in the country, so I can get good use out of my AR, but we also have alot of mud too. I'll get pictures of both trucks when I can, kind of stuck in bfe right now though.

Did not even read your post, But i would call you a moron to buy a AR-15 right now!! they are simply WAY to high dollar and not worth it right now!!!!! WAIT, they will come way down here soon enough when all the sheeple who bought them realize that they overpaid greatly and start trying to sell to recoupe some of thier money.

A lift you can use everyday!! So why not get it, a AR-15 will be cool for all of the amount of time you can afford to shoot it. Then it will sit in the closet until the next time you can find ammo or decide to shoot it. A lift, you will love EVERYTIME you get in your truck!

Ok just read, Now..sell that bitch asap before the price drops! then you MAY be able to pick up the lift and tires for the price you get for the AR-15!

Howdy, i live up around Joplin.

You could make quite a bit off the ar right now, but i think u should keep it. I only use mine at night now to hunt pigs down in Wyandotte. I use a bolt action during the day.

I bet you could find a good deal on a lift n tires if u kept waiting.

This. If you sell it, you'll probably decide that you want another one later.

There are people on here that play 'yo-yo' with their trucks --- you should find an inexpensive lift setup on this site....

The AR-15 Price's are in their prime right now, sell it and hook the truck up.
You'll make a couple extra hundred off of it that can put you ahead and possibly buy you a set of tires. Also welcome (Officially) to the forum!

Keep the gun, it will hold its value, if not go up....after market truck items never get their money back...wat u put into a truck u almost never get back.

Yeah guess that makes sense. I got the AR for about $800, happened to be the last one on the shelf at Academy, so even when inflation does go back down on them I still got it for a good price.

I plan on keeping this truck until the wheels fall off though, so resale value doesn't mean much to me. Everyone in my family seems to have an old mid size junker truck, so somewhere down the road this will eventually be mine, lol.

Guess it isn't gonna kill me to hold off, still got nice tires and the truck drives flawlessly. For now I'll just enjoy plinking coyotes off the back porch. haha

Sell the AR while the price is high, buy a lift then get another Ar when the prices get down to 500-700$

This.

I just spoke to a Gun Sales Manager last night who saw Smith & Wesson M&P AR-15s selling regularly for $1500+. Before this whole mess he said they only sold for $800. Granted that's just one man's opinion but Id'd say if you can turn the AR for a profit of double do it now while you can and pick up another when prices get back to normal.

Nope, they dropped it because they didnt have the support to get ANYTHING passed if they included it. They still want to get background checks (which Im all for) so they had to compromise. Feinstein said she was still going to try to get it done but she has zero support so it wont go anywhere.

I would keep the AR, I bought mine a month before the bullshit! The reason being, the bill was placed on hold to get other bills passed quickly. The bill will be back on the table very soon, mark my words. And with the gov the way it is right now (very pre-wwII Germany), there will be some type of ban if not an attempt at confiscation.

I don't believe in preaching, but like I said "I would keep it" and save for the lift!

If the govt is alot like pre-WW2 Germany then pretty soon it will cut a bunch of the gun laws and make it much easier for people to get weapons. I HATE when people compare our politics to Hitler's because most people know nothing about Hitler. In this case Pre-WW2 Germany had very strong anti-gun laws because after WW1 the US and the Allies forced very strong gun controls on Germany. Hitler got rid of most of them and made it much easier for his people to own guns. All the stuff the Pro-2A croud put out about Hitler and gun laws was complete horse shit. Im against almost all gun control laws but lies are lies. If someone was to put Hitler into either side he would fit more into the Pro-2A group.

Well my wife has been to wal mart multiple times and seen AR's for sale in the "normal" $750-1000 price range, even an AR-10 for $1000 since I deployed in December. So prices never really inflated at the large retailers, just at the local joe shmo's that are benefitting off of the scare and people who don't want to wait for them at reasonable prices. I could easily double my money now, buy just the lifts, and still purchase an AR in theory just "flipping" it, but I would rather have the lift on my truck. Why not take advantage of all the uneducated that are spending the big bucks out of fear?

It may seem like I already know what I'm gonna do, but it sounds a lot better on paper to do that, and a lot easier. And thats why I value opinions.

yea for sure keep your big mags or buy some after you sell it. They might be able to pull the mag ban not sure on that one.

Alright a little update, my wife found a buyer for $1600, so with an $800 rifle, $200 in upgrades, I made a $600 profit. I've decided to stop being cheap and buy the rancho kit, shocks and aal to make the back sit level in the back in front. Now just gotta save the money or find a friend to help put it on.
