Auto Transmission Rebuild

Alright guys, pulled the transmission out on my back tonight; thankfully i wasn't alone, i had the cap't with me.

Wasn't all that bad pulling the trans, beyond every plastic clip under the sun exploding.

Intake wasn't fun... probably the most annoying part of the entire tear down.
Deff. got a couple tricks up my sleeve that i will share with a short write up.

As far as the rebuild though i need some people to chime in.
Tomorrow night i will tear down the beast, into the belly!

I am assuming the sun an all are fine, just lost 3/4 so most likely burnt the clutches.

What would you guys suggest for a/t rebuild kits? My budgets around 300 for the kit and 200 for a converter...

It isn't a corvette so i don't need a cryo case 3500 rpm stall converter and 3/4 lines

I just don't want to do this again >.<

Was considering 4l65 ^upgrade (is it worth it)
Whats the 4l70? just a bit higher load rating?

Beyond that plan on tossing an external filter kit on it and later a cooler.

STILL ON A BUDGET (since i had to replace the rear axle)

I guess what i really want is opinions on what to use, i was thinking upgrading to the 5spurs an all so technically 4l60-4l65 conversion... going to look for a 2000-2200 stall torque converter.

I have the superior servo already, i'll upgrade the boost valve to .490

keep the old pump...

should i be looking into upgraded input/output shafts...hardened?
monster makes a sweet kit for 900 bucks, even has a chrome pan with a drain.

The 4L60e pans for the 4x4 trucks are unique to the 355 to allow for driveshaft clearance. I haven't seen any aftermarket company provide a trans pan that will fit the 4x4s yet, so that's why I'm suggesting that the pan may not fit.

If you rebuild it that case has to be absolutely spotless. New pump, cleaned out entire case really well. I'd upgrade the planataries right away. There a known weakness in the 4l60e. Do it right the first timer not the second time around.

i know its aluminum case so probably shouldnt power wash it huh? lol...

Im talking with monster right now...
deff. upgrading to the
Rear Heavy Duty 5 Pinion Planetary
Front Heavy Duty 5 Pinion Planetary
Heavy Duty "Beast" Sun Shell

did you go for the input and output shafts too? this kit doesnt include any hardened shafts..

hardened shaft
hardened shaft....

anyways...
what did you do for a pump? factory?

You can pressure wash  make sure its dry though. Everything needs to be cleaned.

i figured might damage aluminum...keep it low i guess

nah that wont hurt aluminum as long as you dont use anything with muriatic acid that will etch in no time. if you are using an ultrasonic parts washer just use cascade dish washing powders with hot water, it does wonders for even heavy grime. even if you just use a big plastic bin to clean it in. a good friend of mine has an ultrasonic parts washer at his house and it is awesome, cascade is all he uses in it. he is also a master at GM transmission building.

it was...

i emailed them... waiting...

other damage includes Cracked pump stator, and destroyed low/rev sprag...

i dont think im going to pull apart the low/rev piston..i have no reason to believe it has any issues... i may pull the spring pack out of the input drum though..havent decided..
