Belltech/KW Coilovers - Impressions?

I've been doing a bit of reading up on the Belltech coilovers, and I've found that there are 3 different package configurations you can get.
  1. Fixed compression/dampening, front only
  2. Fixed compression/dampening, front coilovers/rear shocks
  3. Adjustable compression/dampening, front coilovers/rear shocks

I currently have 2nd gen DJM LCA's installed in front, and 3" leafs and 2" blocks in back, with Belltech Street Performance shocks. I am planning on replacing the ZQ8 struts I currently have installed, but I'm undecided on which setup to go with. I would like to go with the 3rd option, but I'm trying to justify the premium I pay for the added adjustability. Does anyone here have the fully adjustable Belltechs, and are they actually worth the extra cost?

I have the double adjustable ones and I like them. Kind of pricy but will work prefectly with you DJM LCA's. You can adjust for the Chevy lean with them also. I have mine set at 8 on the front and 6 on the rear and the ride feels good and they handle great.

05 bow tie

The part number is 21003 and here is a pic. The last time I looked in the BellTech online catalog I couldn't find them. But if you call they can hook you up. The best deal is on the TBSS site.

I got a good deal on mine. I bought them from Bob Ross (rross) he purchased them when he ran his truck at Bonneville and after that he removed them and I bought them for half that price. Unless you buy the double adjustable QA1's these have them beat.

The BT/KW Stainless double adjustable shocks are nice since they are direct bolt-in. They're not as simple to adjust the valving on like the QA1 double adjustable shocks. You can still get the QA1 double adjustables for less than the BT/KW Stainless if you don't mind modding the bump stop mount to fit them. However, I don't think double adjustables are really necessary for street use. The compression and rebound ratio on the QA1 single adjustable is pretty spot on for these trucks. On double adjustables you will have to dial-in the compression and rebound independently and can get frustrating if you don't know what you're doing.

They dont have knobs. There are plastic covers that you remove towards the top and the bottom. Once removed you insert a small screw driver or allen key into the window to adjust. Its kinda hard to describe. But it is a pain in the ass. I adjusted my settings to the middle before I even installed them. Then I think I stiffened up the rears a tad once installed. I do wish the KW's would have had knobs though.

Ahh, I was kind of wondering how you adjusted them, since I couldn't really tell from the picture posted above. BigR, who did you go through on the TBSS site? Was that NORCAL SS? If I remember right, he did a lot of suspension sales on s10forum. Was just wondering if it was the same guy haha.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I ended up just getting the 21001's. I don't see myself tracking this thing anytime soon, I'm just looking more for the adjustable height and an improvement in handling. I think it seems to fit the bill nicely. Plus, I still need to buy some winter tires :th_crazy: not crazy about that thought...

Alrighty, so I finally got em installed last night! Right now, I'm at probably 1/2" - 3/4" drop from what would be considered stock ride height for the coilovers (waiting for the springs to settle a bit before I make any final adjustments). I haven't really been able to put the truck through its paces yet, as I still have a bed full of tools and such, but the ride is a tad stiffer than zq8, which I like. The valving on these is great. Not as much body roll, though I still have some. I would bet a sway bar upgrade would complement this install nicely. I still notice bumps in the road but it's a much better ride than drop springs, that's for sure.
A couple closing remarks:
I'm running 2nd gen DJM lower control arms with these, and I was not able to install the coilovers as a completely bolt-in install. I had to do some grinding on my bumpstop brackets to make clearance for the shock body. I suspect the LCA moves the lower mounting point of the spring inward towards the center of the vehicle, as even the zq8 struts came close to the bumpstop bracket.
Other than that and some miscellaneous fit issues with the lower control arms, it was a very simple install.

Sorry, I wish I got pictures of that! I'll snap a few and update here. I just ground it down about 3/8", down to the weld holding the two pieces of the bracket together. If I wanted to put a bump stop in there, I could easily do so still.
I drew a (very) rough sketch to kinda give you an idea of what I did. Note that pretty much nothing is actually to scale. lol.

Here's a couple of shots from my QA1 install

Bump stop mount and actual bump stop were both notched

You can kinda see the notched bump stop here

When I installed my Belltech/KW's I didn't have to do anything to the bump stop. Mine cleared just fine. I have the 21003's maybe the spring diameter is not as large.
