Blower Motor Resistor

Well, last week I had my colorado in the shop to replace the resistor because it had shorted out. Long story short, they got it fixed for roughly 130 bucks. Now, the blower speeds on the AC don't work again, and this time, its a different issue and they're quoting me $256 to get it fixed. I am seriously contemplating a new vehicle at this point because this is ridiculous. Does anyone know how to maybe fix this at home at a minimal cost?

I paid like 30-40 for the harness at advance and like 12-18 for the resistor. U should've came on here first bro to ask bout this issue... Everybody's had this problem and can easily fixed by yourself, just paid 48$ on eBay for a NEW blower motor with free shipping and can do all the fixes my self

I think last time they replaced the resistor. This time, they want to change out the wiring harness. It still blows on "4" just not the first 3 fan speeds. There's simply no way in hell that I am going to shell out damn near $260 bucks for this repair. And thanks for all the replies and help. CaptainRab, if I don't get this figured out soon then you will more than likely be hearing from me. Thanks again!

Sounds like the dealer used some old stock parts.

GM actually went through and re-engineered the harness and resistor bc of this issue. You better off buying the parts and doing it yourself. It took me more time to pull it in the garage and gather the tools, then the actual install. Very minor issue, not worth trading over IMO.

Thanks. You guys have pretty much convinced me to do it myself. I will be getting the parts soon and begin pouring over the "how to" to make sure I do this correctly. Any help/tips for this repair are, of course, welcome haha. Thanks.

Drop the glovebox by pushing in on both sides when it's open, it'll hang down. Pop out the square at the passenger side of the dash, compare the plugs on the new harness to what you have and start swapping things out one plug at a time so you don't get lost.

Voila. You'll be done in about 15 minutes.

I doubt seriously if the resistor pack really ever goes bad. There are 3 resistors in series and a Thermal fuse on that pack. If your working on 4, then the blower and thermal fuse are good. Clean the ground gp106 connection behind the air filter. Cut the plug off but keep it for reference as to what color wires go where. Tin the Remaining wires then twist the post on the resistor network at 45 degree angles. Add the right high temp spade connector to the wires, plug it into the resistor network and be done with it.

Went to 4 different parts stores in town this afternoon. Not a single one had the harness and O'Reilly's said that its a "dealer item". I did buy the resistor but had to order the harness, should be here by noon Monday. Luckily, I am off during the summer and will have time to fix it myself. :D

Haven't bought the part yet. Don't even know where to get it because none of the parts stores in my area even seem to know what I am talking about. I get a confused look from the employees when I ask for the harness. Then I read that it will just go out again if I replace the harness and resistor. If you could help me out, that would be great.

Trust US Striker, if done correctly it wil likely NOT go out in the life of the truck. I can almost bring that likely to a gurantee with captain's help! that guy will show you everything you need to know and then some! I am a licensed electrician....yet he is the ONLY one i go to when I myself have questions... You don't even need that damn harness more than likely. You can almost always get by without it bro.

Just talk to clint, he will help you out and he knows every trick out there man. Not to mention, 10 minutes on teh phone with him and you will gain a lifelong friend! Good luck and post up when you get it fixed!

Get underneath and put it on 1-3 that doesn't work... Shake the wires coming out of the resistor one at a time and figure out which one is lose. Mark it the pull the harness out. Use a small eye glass flat head and pop that pin out. Go to autozone, advance, oreilys get a new pin replace it on the wiring and yes you can get it off without screwing up the wiring its called patience. Once you have the new connector in put the wire back in the harness. Plug back into the resistor and enjoy Air between 1-3 again. I have done this on my truck my dads and now my uncle who just bough a used 355... It works! Cost about 2 smacker...

Just replaced mine a few weeks ago. Got parts from GMPartsDirect .com. Harness and resistor for less than $60 shipped. Took about 1.5 weeks to get and about 20 mins to install. In my case the the connector, wires and all burned up. Don't try and rig it you might cause more problems than you started with. Make sure that you sand the ground behind the air cleaner.
