ignition coils

Several months ago my truck was at the dealership with some problems and one of which was ignition coil #1 went bad so they replaced it under warranty. 2 months later truck was running like hell so I brought it back and it was ignition coil #2 and#4. They replaced them for a low and easy price of $686 after taxes.
So I knew since 3 of the 5 have gone out in a matter of months that the other ones would be soon. Well this morning the exact same symptoms showed up, to the extent that the truck is undrivable. I called my local advance auto parts and they have 2 in stock at $62 each. so I want to just get them and replace them both myself and be done with it.

Has anyone done this? I hear it is very simple and quick to do but have not done this before.

Any help or pictures you guys have to point me in the general direction would be great.

Thanks guys!

Over time I've broken all the safety clips and never replaced them.
I intended to, just never got around to it.

It's hard for me to imagine that connection is gonna came apart (from vibration) without them, even being that its on top of the engine.

Gotta love how incredibly simple a plug change is on these engines.

On the other hand, they do seem to be pretty sensitive to plug condition...
Yeah, it'll run fine for many many miles on a set of good irridium plugs, but even after only maybe 40k when you do swap em out you can feel the difference.

I'll take that though, no complaints. I love that crazy little 5-cylinder motor.
Too bad it doesn't idle for shit, but other than that it's F-U-N.

Super simple. All you should need it a 10mm ratchet. Take the single bolt out of the plugs after removing the resonator box (if you don't have an intake) and unplug them and drop the new ones in and plug them back up. Easy shmeezy.

MSD coils wouldn't be cost effective or much of a gain unless you were boosted.

Shit there is countless LS motors with over 600+ still on factory coils. The coil on plug design is pretty Damn good it its stock form.

Coils are like anything else, they fail with time.....some are better then others. Shit my 2004 3.5 is still on its original coils.
