NOTE: 2004-05 model year will use DEXRON 4/ 2006 to current model year will require DEXRON 6. Ensure to consult your dealer on the fluid type and proper filter prior to conducting this service. Failure to do so can lead to transmission failure in the worst case situation.

UPDATE: DEXRON 6 can be used on any year 355, but do not mix with other types.

If you are unsure what type is currently in the transmission then I would flush it all out and replace it with dexron VI

Yeah but you have a manual......... Autos have to use DEX6

On a high mileage auto trans...... do not flush it. Just do a fluid and filter service.

Finally, if you lost some fluid its not a big deal, top off your DEX6 via the transmission dipstick tube

I assume you have an automatic. Depending on miles on the vehicle a tranny flush can do more harm than good. Make sure to use the right fluid and topping it up should be fine. An automatic transmission is a really complex hydraulic pressure system. Being short on fluid could cause slippage or premature clutch plate wear. Just dont over fill it either. If it has high miles a filter and partial fluid change might be the way to go.

Yes.....I got that. This member has an Auto......so he will NOT use 75w90 gear oil.

Manual -75w90 gear fluid
Auto - DEX6 only

I work at a gm dealer. Dex4 is not available from gm suppliers. In transmission services dex6 is used in place of any earlier formulation of dextron transmission fluid. Its what gm reccomends.
As with previous upgrades, DEXRON-VI fluids are designed to be backward compatible with earlier transmission hardware. But more important, earlier type fluids are NOT FORWARD COMPATIBLE with transmissions that were designed to use DEXRON-VI.
DEXRON-VI can be used in any proportion in past model vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, in place of DEXRON-III (for instance, topping off the fluid in the event of a repair or fluid change). DEXRON-VI is also compatible with any former version of DEXRON for use in automatic transmissions.
