Those guys make really nice stuff! My boss does business with them!

What can the stock rods take in HP?

I dont think any one has had a rod failure as of yet. Sadly not many people have pushed the limits far enough to find out. A guy on ls1tech made almost 400 hp before it launched anything out but he also broke it on the 22lbs/ race gas dyno run. Never saw any numbers on that one

This is why I dont understand why there's this notion that the stock internals can't handle more than 400 hp..... Nitrous is a different story altogether and does not directly correlate to how much hp the stock internals are capable of handling. I mean ive seen the 4.2L i6 trailblazer motor make 1400 hp with the stock crank. I don't think ours could handle quite as much but I don't think 700 would be pushing it on the crank and that's as long as the rest of the parts are quality parts. It's all in the tuner and builder and these atlas motors might just surprise you when built and tuned right.

400 hp should be pretty easy on our parts, especially with the 5 cyl smooooth running motor.

the only prob most people have is the high compression.

when mine comes apart in fall im just going to put in after market pistons to drop the compression down for the turbo.

other than that im going to use stock rods/crank.

400hp would be nice, but realistically a solid 350 hp would be more then fun as hell.

unless your racing antyhing over 350hp is really just over kill/tire spinning power.

even with my 24x10 rear wheels, 350 is alot of power.

It's all about tire choice, stall speed, rear gears, how quickly the turbo spools...... Yadda yadda yadda. Caltracs are just what the doctor ordered when trying to hook with a light rear end. With the stock stall speed, 3.73's, and good tires, I don't see a traction issue even with 450 at the wheels on my truck. Good adjustable rear shocks and the right preload on the catracs and I'll be good.

why would e85 have higher torque, e85 is a higher octane correct? so shouldnt it have more power in both h and tq and not just torque alone?

 everytime i see these "hp" conversations i wonder why everyone still uses hp as some kind of measuring stick, it doesnt exist. It just a calculation, there is no way to measure it.

And i wishhh i had access to e85 everyone of my vehicles would be converted and burning it. my 383 ci 11.8:1 compression trans am just begs me for e85 and some timing :naughty:

HP conversations still exist because it's still a very valid calculation. HP is a calculation of the amount of work that can be done. If one engine makes 400lb-ft @ 3000rpm and another makes 400lb-ft @ 5000rpm are they the same? They both make the same amount of torque.
