At USASM I traded my cowl hood for a ram air hood. When I got the hood I realized that it was not functional and well I figured it was time for some custom work. I took the hood to my buddy that works at the local body shop and this is what we came up with.

The cutting has begun:

Once its done there will be some SS speed grille mesh behind the cutouts to match the grille and bumper

I do have a couple of questions:

1. Now that that there will be air flowing into the engine compartment, should I pin the hood?

2. Should I paint it all body color or paint the cowl in a silver and two tone it?

Thanks everyone for your comments (good or bad)

Also a big thanks to Nick (djzub), Billy (thethein11), Mike (LilRedRininHood), and of course everyone that helped me fit the hood at the hotel.

I matched it as close as I could to give you an idea what it might look like and did a few options for the silver.

Thanks everyone. Did a little work today cleaning up the bowties, but nothing much

Chad you are AWESOME I appreciate it

Does your hood fly off from air coming through the grill? No. you will be fine heath. Air will flow out of the engine bay down past the motor fast enough.
Thats what I was thinking, but the owner of the shop was thinking that it would cause a lift kinda like an airplane wing.

Either way I hope it will help with some under hood temps and keep it cooler

Nice lookig hood I was there when it was being fitted and it took alittle time to get right but it was at nite and looks like it turned out great I like the silver top my self. As for the hood lifting I have had no problem with my hood lifting at speed and I have had it over 100mph with no lift at all, the only thing I would do is if the back of the scoop doesnt have holes in it I would do that good luck with the new hood

Number 2 on the paint option and no, hood pins are not needed

Thats why I went with a steel hood

All blue and you'd have more issues with the stock hood lifting that your ram air hood. I've been cruising on the highway at about 85 mph at times after I popped the hood to check something and didn't completely shut it thinking I was going to do something else under the hood. No issues with it flying up. Hood pins are cool if you intend on making a race truck out of it so you can remove the hood with ease.
