Hello everyone, this is my first post here and I needs some help.
I just bought a 05 Canyon crew cab 3.5 with 204k miles and while driving back from where I bought it I noticed a quirk.
When at cruising speed in OD with low load on the truck when its up to operating temperature I noticed a rpm pulse that happens. It goes away when you give it enough throttle to downshift and when it is doing it the rpm will raise and lower 200-300.
I used to be a Ford Technician and to me it feels just like the torque converter unlocking and locking back up.
I tried to apply the brakes while keeping a foot on the gas pedal to see if it would unlock, but these truck may unlock with the tps instead of boo switch, because It didn't unlock or was never locked up. I found a article mentioning PIP 4503 but it only applies to 06-07 vehicles.
I checked my trans fluid and added a quart and the problem is still there. I have no miss at idle and have replaced the plugs with Denso iridium and have the supersparkz on the way.
This may be unrelated but it smokes on start up some mornings, but only after a longer drive at highway speeds before I shut it off the night before. I do hear the air leak some from the back of the cam cover on the drivers side that is supposed to indicate that "pcv" is working. However there was a lot of oil coating the inside of my intake when I changed the plugs.
I tried to be as detailed as I could, and I would appreciate all the help I can get.
Thanks TJ
