Rust holes through bed floor

Wow, I just can't catch a break with this truck. After the water fiasco in the cab I thought I'd turn my attention to the exterior of my truck. The PO had installed a carpet bed liner from the factory. It looked nice but didn't serve my mnt bike hauling purposes. I had planned on building a rack to hold three bikes in the upright position.

Anyhow back on topic. So I get the bedliner out to clean and get ready for roll-in bedliner. I noticed some rust under the seam sealer gm used on the floor to bedside seam. It just looked like a bit of rust under the caulk like glue. As I'm tapping on it with the tip of some channel locks it just keep flaking away, and farther away, little farther....oh crap! I can see the drive way through my bed!

Now I've got to weld up a patch for a whole the size of a cue ball. Argh I swear, used trucks.

Any advice? I was going to barrow a buddies small 110v wire feed and just make a small patch after cutting out the cancer. I'm thinking about doing it from underneith the bed that way I don't leave a lip I can catch if I toss a shovel or a board in the bed.

100k/6yr rust warranty

GM vehicles are designed and built to resist corrosion. All body and sheet metal components are warranted against rust-through corrosion for 6 years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first). Application of additional rust-inhibiting materials is neither necessary nor required under the Sheet Metal Coverage. GM makes no recommendations concerning the usefulness or value of such products. Application of after-manufacture rustproofing products may create an environment which reduces the corrosion resistance built into your vehicle. Repairs to correct damage caused by such applications are not covered under your New Vehicle Limited Warranty. See your GM dealer for terms of this limited warranty

Mines was roll on. :D

But seriously, the bed liners do help prevent rust from starting and spreading. Thats what I had on the edges where I had to cut my bed and no rust...
