Sam's Club fuel?

I run Chevron Premium 93 Octane in my tuned 5.3. It's getting pretty expensive with the 4.10's and my heavy foot.
I'm a member of Sam's Club and I'm tempted to save a few cents per gallon. Does anyone know who supplies Sam's fuel? What's the risk?

I'm not really sure who their supplier is. Maybe it's different for each state? I know for a fact that I have not had much luck with it. My 08 with the 2.9 lost both performance and mileage while running their fuel. At first I thought I was just being picky or something. Same thing happened with my wife's Toyota minivan. Neither of which have any "performance" mods or tunes. I can't imagine what it would do to your 5.3. As much as it pains me to fill up at my local Chevron, I keep going back. It ends up equaling out in the price to mileage ratio and my engines seem healthier. Just my .02. lol. Hope it helps.

Never had problems locally, but I don't fill it at Sam's that often. The local Kroger affiliate (Dillions) has a discount with their loyalty card I always get a dime or better off the retail price.

Alcohol blends (10%) seem to be worse on the kid's Cavaliers.

Have a local oil company I buy from almost exclusively..100% REAL GAS..No mix bullshit. AND there is a new gas station in town down on I 3...They are in a price war with all the older stores and are just killing the price around here. I love it!! Gas went from $3.76 gallon, to $3.44 OVERNIGHT!

I was told by a chemist who checks stations and suppliers fuel for the Canadian govt. that Chevron has the cleanest fuel and most accurate octane levels. Cheap gas isn't as good. I pay about $1.46 a liter for mid grade and for the few dollars you save it's not worth using dirty gas.

Just as a curiosity do you know where the Chevron fuel you are buying is coming from? I work at the Citgo Refinery here in Lake Charles, Louisiana; there is also a Conoco refinery here in town, where do you think all fo the Chevron, Shell, Texaco, and etc. gas stations in town get their fuel from? Do you think they truck in into town from their nearest refinery, that's probably two states away? Hardly seems cost effective does'nt it? All Gas is the same minus the addative/detergents. What ever gas you are buying is probably coming from the nearest refinery/pipeline, they only thing you get when you buy a certain name brand fuel is that company's addatives/detergents.

The only other thing that I'll touch on is some refineries still produce 100% gas, not gas with 10% ethanol. I have noticed that if I buy 100% gas, I get noticably better fuel economy, that is because the 10% ethanol that is in other fuels, burns slower and decreases your fuel economy.

who else is selling amerincan fuels?
I was told by a costumer at a Valero, they were, and that he and a bunch of old folks were planning to boycott texaco, shell and chevron, for being outsiders and overprice their shit, but i guess that never happened

i am down to buy just american, i know the other ones support employment here too but still...

Oh well....I knew when I bought it quick and good mileage weren't necessarily going to be compatible. Right now quick wins for me. I guess I'll just have to cut back on beer money.

I always just go for the good quality gas. Think about what you're actually saving by going even $.10 cheaper per gallon. Lets say for the sake of argument I run my truck completely empty every tank(19 gallons I think?), and on average I fill up once a week. That's only a savings of $1.90 per FULL tank. Again, assuming a complete tank refill every week, that's only $98.80 over the course of a year. To me, that's more than worth it to get good gas. I always put the good oil and filter in my vehicles to make sure they run as long as possible, why wouldn't you do the same with gas?

Ya know ..I'm glad I posted this question. It generated a lot of good discussion and valuable information. Colorado 5.3 and CUZICAN made some really good points. I'll let the wifey buy a years supply of toilet paper and paper towels at Sam's every month  and buy my gas at Chevron!
