Some of you may have seen the antenna I made in my personal Canyon thread. I got a couple PMs about it so I figured I would see if this is something people would be interested in.

These are hand made on a lathe out of 2011 aluminum hex bars. They would be 3.5" long. They will pick up a good signal although not as good at longer distances as the stock fishing rod.

I can finish them in plain, or anodize them in black (possibly red or blue as well). Pricing would probably be $22.50 shipped for the 3.5" model and $27.50 shipped for the 5.5" model.

It depends on how much the anodizer guys would charge me, but I'm guessing $20 + $2.50 shipping.

how bad would my radio get?
I'll have to do some range tests but I used the 3" one in the city here and the reception was perfect on FM. There would likely be noticeable noise on the AM frequencies.

cool idea! id wanna see how they look on though
I'll try to take some better pics... there is a couple here:

The way I would do it is to chuck it and use to tailstock with a chuck and a center drill. Then take out the chuck and use your live center and rechuck the stock. Turn it down and add your reliefs at the end. Then rechuck the stock and face the end to get rid of your drill mark and add your point or if you want you could add a dome to the end too

Sorry. Lets see if I can reword this:

Chuck the hex stock in the lathe

Use a center drill in a jacobs chuck to drill a hole in the end for the live center

Take out the chuck and put in your live center

Rechuck the stock and turn down your OD and add your relief's in the end.

Take out the live center and slide the stock back into the chuck.

Face the end to get rid of your drill mark

Add your point or if you are feeling up to it add a dome to the end

I understand the jargon. :)

I think the main problem for me is the hex bar I'm using is too big in diameter to slide deep into the chuck, so the piece will have about 5" unsupported for facing. Need bigger lathe or smaller hex stock. (which is the likely solution as I didn't think so many people would want one and I don't have nearly enough aluminum right now :p)
