Well I guess it would depend on what kind of box you have weather it be ported or non and some other stuff. I figured this would be a simple question and answer, well now its beyond my point of knowledge and I'll let the sound guru's take over.

Sorry couldn't help you further then that. All I know is I did it with my enclosed box and it made it sound better. Not sure if it works that way with enclosed boxes or not.

pollyfill is what your looking for.....they usually use it in sealed boxes to get rid of the "hollow" sound. I would give it a shot it wont hurt the sound and if anything it will make it sound better.....plus its not that pricey.

 

Not at all, you can get a bag for a couple of bucks. Hit up the craft section of Wal-mart or a Jennifer Ann Store, whatever you have out there, or even your sound shop will have it.

Def cheaper then a bag of balls

There should be some stuff at wal-mart or hobby lob:355:by. you stuff pillows with just like cotton ball but its should work better since its bigger...

Filling a sub box with cotton, tricks the sub into thinking there's more airspace than there actually is, hence making it louder.

I was starving my 12" out of airspace when I 1st installed it, my box is too small. Filled it with cotton, and it's was now hitting notes and tones that it wasn't hitting before!

 

Be careful about stuffing cotton around the motor vents for the subs, they can overheat and cause mechanical failure in the VC's if wanged on pretty hard. It works just like the radiator ont he truck, you don't wanna block it off or the motor won't relieve heat.

 

get a bag of poly fil and glue it to the back of the box this keeps it away from sub so it can vent

How much is too much poly fill? I got a bag sittin here, just wondering cuz theres not alot of extra space in my sub box and the Rockford's magnet.

 

I hear 1 inch of polyfil around the outside edges of a box increases the box's calculated airspace by 10-15%.

Meaning a sub calling for 1ft^3 of airspace can feasibly be .85-.9ft^3 and sound just as good with the polyfil.

 

Just take out your sub and fill all around leaving a nice round space for your sub. A couple inches away should do the trick. Just nothing right up against it.
