We did that when putting my lift spindles on and it broke the stud. Had to make a link until my new one came in at the stealership. And they are proud of those links, it was like $50
you were prying the wrong way then. im talking about prying on the backside of the link so as to take pressure off the nut and put pressure on the shoulder of the shaft which prevents it from spinning. i do this atleast 4 times a day on various vehicles and i've never broken one, its pretty much impossible if you do it right.
 
Actually... that is the exact way we were doing it. I have done it on my truck countless times as well as my car. But this last time, for some reason, it decided to snap the stud. Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions, I have worked on vehicles under mechanic guidance since before I could drive. (family full of mechanics)
i wasnt saying you didnt know what you were doing, i just dont see how prying on the backside of the link itself is going to snap the shaft..
