Today I was driving home and noticed my truck start vibrating. When I looked at my gauges, I was going about 35-40 mph and the rpm's were at 1k. I found that kinda weird so I pulled over and turned the truck off. Well when I turned it back on and put it in drive, it shifted hard and made a clunking sound. Now the truck shifts super hard from 1st-4th and vibrates under about 45 mph. If I keep the truck in 3rd it wont do anything but it still shifts hard. What could this be? I'm a bit nervous to drive the truck to work tomorrow, so I have to try to get this resolved as soon as possible. Any ideas what it could be? It's an 08 i4 single cab auto.

So after some more research It seems it might be the ujoint. Does this sound like the symptoms of one going? Where would I get one? Sorry for all the noobish questions. I am searching I just can't get any clear answers. Thanks in advanced.

The truck has 71k miles and I just got it a few months ago. I'm not sure if its been changed or not. I've read changing it can cause damage, so I've been hesitant. Should I change it?

Update:
Drove the truck about 5 miles this morning, and it drove perfectly. Wtf?

go ahead and change the oil, trust me it wont hurt the truck, maybe on korean cars it will but remember, we own chevys! if you have the means to do it yourself then do it. It takes about 45 minutes to do and saves you about a ton of money. if after a fluid change (with filter, have to specify that or people wont change the filter) it still doesnt shift normally then idk. maybe the servos are bad.

Just read that it ran perfectly this morning. my truck wil do the same thing (not the sifting problems) but shell have an off the wall issue and the next day its fine and ill never have the issue again. i chalk it up to our computers that constantly "learn"

sounds to me like the U-joint. Here's how you can check. Get under the truck grab the driveshaft near the forward u joint first with both hands and pull it back and forth, there should be no play. Then repeat for the u joint at the rear end.

They are cheap($10-$30) and can be found at any autoparts store. Don't buy the cheapest they have, get a quality name brand because it will only be a little more and some of the cheaper companies fail really fast.

Issue just came back today briefly on the way home from work. Happend about 3 miles away from home. When I got home I checked the tranny fluid and all was good. Get in the truck again and no more hard shifts, but it still slightly clunks when put into drive. Going to check the ujoints this weekend, anything else you guys think I should take a look at?

check the u joints, those are pretty easy to check out, if you discard those, then id take it to a shop to get it checked out, check and see if its throwing any codes as well.

^^ that must have been fun..

I say search for a good local shop that can take a good look at it for your and help you diagnose it, even if you have to pay a little for it. this is the kind of things that can leave you stranded when you least expect it and make it all worse in the long run.
