I'll be doing this during the off season. My boy made his bed floor and routed thin 1.5" strips in between the wood planks and got 1.5" aluminum strips to fit in the grooves. Looks fine.

I kinda cheaped out on my original version, I just used L bracket aluminium, not a premade kit. Didn't want to spend to much on the proof of concept

might look into something like these on future attemps

 

so is that just wood thats joined together and then had a metal strip down the joint? How is the metal held in place? Pretty interesting idea for sure not sure if I wanna go that route or the more traditional way. Its different but nice though

 

everythings fine so far. he throws all kinds of crap back there, rain and all, driven daily. no probs yet.
