Been posting this on FB so you may be familiar with the sit. Got in an accident about 5 months ago. Their fault and insurance is paying. AFter pickignup fromthe body shop, it has and issue witht he pass tire rubbing into the fender and cutting the tire. The dealer, Big O(3 times) and the body shop missed it. I had been driving the truck, but cautiously until i found the cracks. The pass side lower C/A mount is partially broken and almost hitting the Diff. Torsion bar is bent as well as the C/Arms and shock. Not too worried about fixing the mount as I have already had to weld the drivers side 2 years ago after it broke. Front cross member has some cracks on a few of the welds and is slightly bent on the pass side. The body shop that did the repairs did a shit job. drivers side running lights stick out 1/2" farther than the pass side, fish eyes in the paint, horrible paint match/blend job, over spray on my back wheel? and underneath. I could go on but, rather move on as I cant do anything about it.
Finally coming to a settlement after 5 months of being hit. They are offering to total it and I have the option of buying it back. I had planned to fix the C/A mount and replace the C/A's as well and seeing if that fixes the tire rubbing. IF so then I'll just grind down and re-weld the crossmember as I dont see how to straighten it atm. I had thought about finding a straight one in a junkyard and cutting it off. and having a shop weld it back on. Which If I cant, then frame swap. which I dont really want to spend the money($5k at a shop). So hopefully fixing the C/A mount will stop the rub. Torsion bar may be an issue, But I saw user here that had some, would just have to drive.
I dont have any pics of the damage on my pc atm...will try to post later today...
I love my truck, but time really isnt my friend atm so hopefully I'm making the right choice by keeping it. Pic is current..

What WV Native says. Great candidate for a solid axle swap. He is correct on the costs. It can be done cheaply, but it will not last or it will have issues. I plan on doing mine next year. Spent this year getting the LS Swap done. Had my 05 since it was new and just going to keep it and keep repairing it. New stuff costs way too much!

this is simple, you call your insurance tell them about this and the bad job the body shop did.
Then the vehicle goes to another body shop to be fixed correctly. The old body shop foots the bill.

this is a law. Your vehicle was not repaired properly. this is not your issue.
If they, the insurance companies dontfix this for you, there is a HUGE lawsuit waiting for you.

id call a few lawyers and get your paperwork together.

ou are being taken for a ride and dont even know it....

Lawyers wont do anything because I wasn't injured, I've checked. No other body shop wants to touch another shops work here, I've already looked into it. I was told to see if he had insurance and to file a claim with them, as I was told, I chose that shop so it's on me. I dont agree with that last part. I dont have the time wait for court proceedings, and let it sit at another body shop for months either, as I have already lost my ass by not having a vehicle for work. It is what it is so I have to make the best of it.

Sounds like it's a little in the weeds, but

It usually only takes 1/3 the agreed value of a vehicle in parts and labour to get it scrapped by insurance. Between rentals and lost value it's cheaper for them to scrap it.

On that note I have been taught to splash a little oil on the intake manifold. Just in case they reject the buy back and it goes to auction.

Update:. I opted for the total. Hopefully I'll have my check by weeks end. I got the control arms, Knucke, and torsion bar removed. Took ball joint spacer out of old C/A. Did the whole BJ conversion for flip as new bolts were pressed in. Bushing bracket is a bit hammered but not broken. Shock was dented on body. As far as the torrsion bar it seems very very slightly bent, but going check the run out tomorow I'll get picks up as well. Pretty sure I get that mount right I'll be gtg 🤞

Update. Weather has been nasty so Ihavent done anything for a week or two. Today I was grinding off the welds that connect to two peices to the C/A mount. My plan is to heat and bend the current bracket then re weld the 2peices back together, as the outer peice is not damaged. Which I may need to remove the inner part of the bracket to reshape the hole for the busing. Ihave to drop the Diff as there is no room to get to the front side of it.But that's not too bad, Just worried about those darn nuts in the frame...
