I’ve owned my 2007 Canyon for about two months and experienced my first Passlock problem tonight. I went to the grocery store and locked the truck with the remote. When I came back out, I unlocked the truck with the remote. I may have hit unlock more than once and possibly hit lock, also.
I loaded the groceries in the truck, got in an closed the door, put the key in the switch and turned it to start. The engine tuned over but didn’t start. Tried again with the same result. Then I saw the Passlock light in the cluster and knew I had a problem.
I googled 2007 GMC Canyon Passlock and found several YouTube videos. The first one said to turn the switch to On for 10 minutes, turn it to Off for 30 seconds, On for 10 minutes, Off for 30 seconds, On for 10 minutes, Off for 30 seconds, then start the truck.
Being the supremely patient person that I am, I immediately stared searching for another method. Found a video about bypassing Passlock in 9 seconds and it worked.
Procedure: Leave your door open, put your key in the switch (don’t turn it), you’ll get a fast “bing” (the key in switch with door open alarm), let it “bing 6 to 8 times (about 4 seconds), turn the switch to On and you’ll get a slow ”bing” for about 5 seconds and some of the lights in the cluster will go out, then start the truck.
It worked for me and the guy who did the video said it worked for him every time. I went back in the garage after I unloaded the groceries and the truck started first try. The Passlock was on but it went off after the truck started. The guy who did the video said his problem started when his son used his truck to jump-start another truck. He didn’t say if he was still having trouble.
