I'm still trying to decide which way to go with my exhaust and after listening to as many sound clips as possible on-line, I am seriously considering just going completely muffler-less.

Bad idea?

Agreed, my Gibson cat back with a gutted cat is pretty friggin loud from 3-6500 rpm. Cruising on the highway would drive you nuts.

MBRP. No muffler sounds like Sarah Palin talking.

You guys sure don't like the muffler-less idea much, huh?

Ironically, the sound clips I've heard don't sound all that different than any of the big names mufflers I've heard, to my ears anyways. Unless it sounds really different in person...

I used to run my 4.3L S-10 without a muffler and it wasn't loud at all. I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around why this truck would be so different.

Were the sound clips you heard from a Colorado? I ran mine down the street with no muffler when I was installing my magnaflow catback just for shits and giggles, and it sounded like total crap. Like really really bad. Now on the other hand, my buddies 03 cobra with no mufflers sounds pretty good.

Yeah, I was listening to an I5 Colly on coloradofans.com.

1BADI5, the gibson catback on a 3.5 is louder than a straight pipe.

alot of people on this forum say the truck sounds like shit with alot of different exhaust, but people are always trying to get a v8 sound out of an inline 5 cylinder.

we recently had a socal meet, and one guy was running a turndown after the second cat and it sounded awesome in my opinion. our trucks sound like what they are, mid sized trucks, i have my exhaust flanged so i can run

1) Turndown after 2nd cat
2) SLP Loudmouth 1
3) Flowmaster 50

i've aalso heard the gibson cat-back and the mbrp turndown exhaust

the MBRP is a good balance of sound, has a good deep rumble at idle, and doesnt sound bad under load.

the gibson i heard was on the Mcneil racing truck, and when we had my 3.7 running next to his, when he would rev it was louder than my 3.7 without an exhaust on it!

i currently run the SLP loudmouth 1, which is basically a hollow tube, and i love it. but im also not a person trying to get a v8 sound out of my truck, my flowmaster is the closest to that sound you can get while being under load

i know this is alot to read, so i'l just drop some videos at the end.
My Flowmaster 50 on a 3.7L

and my SLP LM1 which is basically muffler-less, since this video, the popping has gone away, the computer re-learned with the new muffler and the wide open-ness of having the SLP, the flowmaster had lots of backpressure

Last question... If I were to go muffler-less, am I going to have to deal with that popping issue?

How long did it take the computer to learn to compensate for it, if you don't mind me asking?

the popping really isnt an "issue" all 3.7L colorados do it with the stock tune, i just unplugged my battery for 30 minutes, and its still present, just not as loud.

once i revert back to my custom tune it will be gone, because my hptuners tune is slightly leaner.

throw your truck in 2nd and decelerate from 50-35, you'll hear it.

i threw on a 40 series and was afraid it would sound like a ricer (so did the guy installing it) but it sounds pretty badass, he even said it sounds better than most 6 cylinder cars/trucks he does.
i dont think u can go wrong with any of the exhausts mentioned above. def dont take it off completely, i dont think thats even good for the truck?

I am..

I just unbolted the back half.. so I still have a cat, but its just open after that..

I lost a lot of low end torque but gained some up high in the revs and its a lot more responsive..

I am gonna get a cut out so I can go back and forth from quiet to loud.. I LOVE how it sounds buut its loud as fuck inside and annoying on longer trips or with a passenger..

Ive taken mine off and on like 3 times the past month, I need to get a cut out..

here is what I took off:

Some videos.. but none of them really serve it justice..

yeah I have been meaning to get a lil turndown made to angle it away but if I get a cut out then that solves it..

Im still running stock muffler (when its on) so its SUPPPER quiet with the muffler on lol
