Ok, when I get on the interstate and hit 70mph or above and hit a bump w/ my 22"s on, I get a N A S T Y wheel hop goin'! It just started about a month ago. So today, took off my 22''s and put on the factory 15''s w/ fresh rubber and N O T H I N G! What gives? From a visual inspection, no lost wheel weights and no wheel damage or bendage so I'm perplexed :ugh: I called some local shops and they all pretty much think its a ball -joint/shock/tie-rod issue. Please weigh in w/ opinions.

check your tires.... one on the 2's could be seperated and that'll cause wheel hop at a certain speed or can increase according to speed.... i had a cooper cobra sperate on my old ford.... it bounced right at 45 for awhile then started doing it constantly and turned out i just needed a tire...

was gonna say the same thing, only on a Chevy Astro van......try swaping the rears to the front and vice versa and see if the hope goes to the rear.....Rob..

I agree with Slo86GT. I'm guessing your 22" wheel and tire weighs more than the 15" stockers, and the tire sidewall is MUCH shorter. So, two things are happening.
1. The shorter sidewall is transmitting more of the bump into the suspension compared to the tall stock tire.
2. Your tire is a mass, on the end of a spring, which requires a damper (shock) to damp out the oscillations in the system. If you increase the mass on the end of the spring, you need more damping force to resist the movements.

So, I suspect that your current shocks are too weak to damp the movements of the heavier tires/wheels, given the larger inputs to the suspension system.

You should still rotate the tires to make sure one of the belts hasn't broken or that you have an issue with the wheel and/or tire. Don't want to find that out the hard way. Broken belts are not ALWAYS visible on the sidewall or tread, sometimes it's a real PITA to find until it just lets go.

Once you get the new shocks on you should also get the truck aligned with the 22's on it if you hadn't already.

Bump steer? He didn't mention anything about the truck traveling left or right after hitting the bump. I won't rule it out though. You probably just need new shocks up front. Have them check your tie rods to see if each one is pointing toward your instant center and to make sure their lengths are relative to the inner mounts of both upper and lower arms and both ball joints.
