Nope, no set screws or anything. Just maybe put a layer of cloth between them and the teeth of some pliers so they don't get all scratched up.

I pulled mine by hand yesterday with my thumb and index finger.

I replaced the resister and fan checked fan with battery . It works. No fuses blown. Control knob???

 

@Brumfield. What EXACTLY is the problem with the blower? It does not work on any speed setting? It only works on hiugh speed? Have you checked and cleaned the ground connection? It is a small black box attached to the fender wall with one bolt. It is located behind the air filter case in the engine compartment. Remove the bolt and clean the mating surfaces of the box tab and the fender wall.
