Antenna base could also be at fault if cleaning the threads don't work. Poor connection at cable side

 

If giving the antenna base a good scrub down doesn't improve your reception I've always had decent results with FM Boosters.

 

i thought fm boosters were a myth...

 

He probably didn't get the GM to aftermarket antenna adapter so the outer shield isn't making contact. I just threw mine together without an antenna adapter for a few days while I waited for it to be delivered and I would only get 2 stations that were a couple towns over clearly and all the others were crap.

i stuffed the hole of the radio with foil and shoved the antenna in, no adapter, but reception does fade from time to time

My reception sucks too. I was hoping a new deck would change that.

 

The problem we see at the dealership with torrents, equinox, and NBS equinox is the coaxial and the antenna base need replace. Also a possibility of a poor connection at the base where coaxial connects.
