Engine weight considerations

I noticed with my swap when going from a 2.9 4 cyl to an LS1 8 cyl that there was a signifficant drop on the front end due to the increased engine weight.
I did not measure before and after, but I am guessing I got at least a 1" drop. I only have about 1" clearance on the lower control arm bump stops.

Anyone else noticed that?
Did you do anything about it?

I have the Belltech 25005 front shock kit that provides for an adjustable 0-2" drop and plan to install 2 of the originally supplied spacers to re-gain an additional 1" of suspension travel.

Interesting. I didn't notice any significant change in nose height with the L52 I5 to LS3 V8 swap, but I didn't actually measure the before and after height either.

It's probably fair to note that the I5 would reasonably have ~20% more mass than the I4, and that my truck already had Beltech coil overs with a higher spring rate beforehand.

When the weather gets a little better around here, I plan to have a local suspension tuner put her on scales for a corner weight session, and precision alignment.

I didnt measure either and I went with an iron block so i added a bit more weight not including the turbo setup. I was already lowered prior to the swap but I believe it may have messed up my alignment because I stared getting inner wear on both front tires.

Maybe just find a set of V8 springs and replace? Weight is generally a consideration when designing springs for a vehicle. Springs are to hold up vehicle (simplistically) and shocks are to dampen spring oscillation. Shocks very rarely designed to be weight bearing.

That sounds like a good suggestion. However I checked at Rockauto and they list the same coil spring/strut part number for the 5.3 and the 2.9 (2009). It will just be a matter of adjusting the height with the Beltech kit then I guess.
