Anyone ever do any kind of testing in these truck with both fuels and see which one makes better power and fuel economy? I've been running Non-ethanol Premium from Marathon and it seems to have a little better low end power, and better MPG. Am I just crazy or has anyone else experimented with it??

Its only a few cents higher in my town. But everyone I've talked to around here says that the ethanol free is better and will get better MPGs. Why is that? Or is it even true? I'm just trying to do some research and find if it's worth the few extra cents. I know in smaller gas engines like boats and lawn mowers, the ethanol gas will make it run hotter. Can this be the same on our truck engines?

If it is truly 100% ethenol free and you have to have your vehicle smog checked, you will need to run a few tanks through before you get tested. My understanding is the exhaust sniffers won't pass your truck from the readings it receives.

Sorry, I can't tell you why it supposedly makes a difference. I know it has longer shelf life, but in a vehicle when does shelf life matter. LOL

They dont give us any emissions texts in Kentucky that I'm aware of lol. Maybe I'm the only one dumb enough to try it lol. I did Seafoam my top end about 2 weeks ago and then started running the ethanol free gas........so maybe its just the seafoam?? lol. mind boggling I tell ya. Ha.

The butt dyno adds a bit of low end get up and go. I do see 25-30 miles more on a tank of Ethanol Free fuel. Ethanol does not burn as hot as gasoline, there has to be a slight performance gain. Where I fill up the price is reasonable so thats all I have been running for 2 years now.

Look no further than the FEDGOV and the ethanol lobby (corporate farms) for that.

The ethanol lobby is now pushing for E15 gas.

The tree huggers are in on it too despite the fact that ethanol blended gas generates 2.14 times more ozone and formaldehyde than straight gas... But who cares about a little more smog and the asthmatics who have to suffer because of it.

Oh, and it takes 1.52 gallons of ethanol blended gas to produce the same power as one gallon of straight gas.

Its good to know I'm not the only one thats noticed a difference in MPGs. LOL. A friend of mine also told me that all premiums gasoline doesn't have ethanol.... that's not right is it?? The ethanol free gas around my area is about 10 cents higher than premium so i dont see that its not worth it. 10 gallons of regular at 3.26 a gallon here is 32.60. 10 gallons of the ethanol free gas at 3.52 a gallon is 35.20. it's worth the few extra bucks IMO to get better fuel economy....correct me if I'm wrong. lol.

i always hear it doesn't burn as well,,,, clogged injectors and more deposits left inside. if its less efficient, costs more in the long run in maintainence, i don't see the point in using it. after gutted cats an a high octane tune i foul plugs every 10k just using regular unleaded rated 87 octane. on 92-93 everything stays much cleaner and burns better and the plugs last longer, O2 sensors stay clean longer

I'm jealous your paying 3.26 for fuel. It's around 3.70 here.

Haha... Uh... Regular (ethanol) is 3.99 out here. Non-Ethanol regular is 4.29$. As someone with a small motor (jetski) I hate ethanol. You can always tell which is ethanol and which isn't. In the truck the biggest thing I notice with non-ethanol is about an extra 40 miles to the tank.

I guess I'm having an issue translating. Full sentences and punctuation in the correct places with paragraphs and some background would help.

I've never seen an ethanol free gas below 91 octane.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say there? Are you saying ethanol free is crappy, or that 87 octane ethanol gas is crappy? Or that 91 octane ethanol gas is good?

as much as i have had to clean the tb, im on my 3rd set of plugs with 86k on it, have cleaned a ton of build up off the 02 sensors, i think these trucks need to be ran on high octane to keep everything clean and running good. i have been running 92-93 octane through it for a while now and its doing much better.

What can you really tune on a stock motor to require higher octane fuel though? You can't really change your compression ratio, lol. A turbo or supercharged motor requires premium. I'm not too familiar honestly with the differences in the octane levels and what they mean. Any explanations?
