OK - so lately, when I turn on my heat I can smell something coming out of the vent like a burning smell. It isn't everytime, but more and more it is happening. My assumption that it may be the resistor pack, but wanted to get other ideas. Let me know what it may be.

Thanks,

yeah mine was giving off the syrupy smell when i started using my heat a lot more this year, but (im really keeping my fingers crossed) it seems to not be as bad lately and is still getting nice and toasty in my truck after only maybe 10-15min so.... thoughts on that one?

Yeah I've had happen to me before in my VW. It isn't that smell. It smells electrical like a resistor, plastic burning, or possibly the blower motor. When on the 3 position of the fan speed, sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. I've seen on here that the resistor pack goes out on these from time to time and was wondering if maybe there is a smell or something that coincides with it. Thanks for you inputs and your ideas.

Sounds like it is that resistor pack burning the harness. All the rain we had the last few days is probably messing with it too?

You can check pretty easy with just a 7mm nutdriver. Look down in the passenger footwell for the connector facing straight down with the two 7mm screws next to it. Take those out and check out the resistor. If you need to fix it, be sure you also service the ground pack out in the engine compartment by cleaning it up and improving the ground. There's a how-to on here with pics on replacing the wire harness and resistor pack.
