This is a simple "How-To" on a cheaper option for making your front turn signals LED switchbacks. This means your turn signal bulbs will be white then blink amber when the turn signal/caution lights are engaged.

Our front turn signal sockets are made to fit a 3757 type bulb which has an offset side tab configuration as shown below:

LED switchback bulbs are only made with a 3157 tab configuration (at least I haven't found any in 3757). The 3157's have a center tab placement like below (pictures of an unmodified 3157 bulb):

Step 1:
Purchase your white amber switchback turn signal bulbs. I grabbed these from V-leds.com for $49.99 + $5.00 shipping for the pair. According to V-leds these are NOT recommended for use if your DRL bulbs function as your daytime running lights. Mine is an 07 so my daytime running lights are the headlights.

Step 2:
Take your sandpaper or dremel and shave down the half of each tab of the 3157 LED switchback bulbs so that they become offset like the 3757 bulb tabs. Sand until they will fit snug into the 3757 turn signal socket. A dremel would make this quick and easy but sand paper will work. All I had was 100 grit sand paper so that's what I used. In the pictures above you can see a center seem in the plastic, this is what I used as a guide on where I needed to stop sanding. The pictures below are of the modified switchback 3157 bulb.

Step 3:
Make sure they work. These bulbs will only work one way in the socket, so if at first they do not light up, take the bulb out, flip it, and reinsert into the socket.

I purchased this pair for $29.99 + shipping as a matching set for the inner DRL bulbs next to the turn signals. These are a direct fit for the inner sockets so no shaving is required, but they also will only light up if inserted one way into the socket, so if they do not light up at first, flip the bulb as described above.

I apologize for the shaky video. I wanted to demonstrate the switchback in action which meant reaching in through the window of the cab to hit the turn signal while trying to hold the camera.

NOTE: Hyperflashing may occur if you have LED brake light bulbs in your tail lights.

One thing it may have been said and I mossed but the person that posted this "how to" said that their drl's are their headlights, but mine are the parking lamps and v-leds.com say not to use if replacement is a drl bulb. So do they work with parking lamp drl's? If not is there a way to disable drl's without losing function of the parking lights/blinkers?

The delay from amber to white is a function of the internal BCM clock. Nothing you can do about it.

I also swapped my bulbs to these: iJDMTOY Bi-Color 27-SMD-5050 3157. I was interested in a brighter bulb and they are noticeably brighter than the 54ct smds or whatever I had before.

Did you get the correct bulbs -- standard 3157s, NOT the 3157 CK?

I haven't sat down to think about what would happen if you had a mis-matched bulb/socket, but just food for thought.

NOTE: Just realized above is for a taillight socket. Same concept applies to turn signal/marker bulb.

I've converted my truck's DRLs from low beam to marker lights & have run the switchbacks in there for 1yr +. I only upgraded to different bulbs because I wanted something that was overall brighter -- so I guess my point being that switchbacks shouldn't have an issue with this.

I've always been confused by the DRL vs. marker lamps comments. If the lights are ohk to run as a marker lamp, why not as a DRL? I would think that the voltage to the marker lamps is the same in DRL mode?

Oh ok well my low beams arent on during the day i only have the bulb ontop of my low beem on
Its amber.
I am also confused by this because ive heard them called "parking lights" "running light" " turn signals"
My truck is more of a show car so i dont drive it on a daily basis so i font thjnk i would have trouble with burning up bulbs. I wana convert it because i h.i.d and the bulb next to my turn signal is LED so now i have that dang turn signal bulb stock and it trows it off so i wanted to switch it to LED but but wanted the switch backs

The bulb on the inside stays white--never turns amber, correct?

Does the inside bulb on a stock truck ever flash? I thought the turn signal only affected the outside bulbs?

If that's the case, your inside bulbs will never turn amber. You would have to mod the inner lamps to signal too.

But I need someone with a stock setup to confirm that.

The inside bulb is suposed to be amber, but that one doesnt really do anything just turns on at night .
I just changed it just for the hell of it
I want both of the top lights to be white and only yure corner one to blink amber
I don't want the the iner bulb to act as a turn signal , i just want it to come on at night like stock but in whute not amber

I used these bad boys on the inside
Classy Autos Backup Daytime Running Light White LED Bulbs Reverse Light 54-SMD 3156 3157 3757 4114 4157 : Amazon.com : Automotive

And these on the outside

There nice and bright didn't half to use the resistors, don't have the rears don't yet so that may change. They have on board circuit that cuts out the white when power is added to the turn signal then cuts back on after the signal is disengaged. I also have a blue led strip and I plan on swapping the inside lights for blue ones too.

I'll add a pict in just a second.

Same here, I just inserted new LED 3157 switchback into all 4 sockets. No problem, worked as it should.

Please note that I do have full LED taillights also, with a 6 Ohm, 50W load resistor (each side), to stop the hyper blink from the BCM. This may be the cause of problems that some are having. The BCM may not be seeing the LED load, like it would from a standard bulb.

Can this mod be done in conjunction with sequential order using the switch backs? I keep searching, but I can't find anything where anyone has tried or succeeded at it.

For clarity: LED switch backs in both sockets, and have them run sequential when turn/hazards on.

Any help, or just point me in the direction would be appreciated.
