How to Replace Fuel Filter
Project Description
What you are doing here is replacing your fuel filter to make sure you keep pumping clean gas into your motor!

A fuse puller will also come in handy, if you do not have one available try needle nose pliers.

Prices for fuel filters range from roughly 7$-25$
1. Remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box. It is the small 15 amp fuse between the the fuel pump relay and the center mounting bolt, fuse #13.
2. Start the truck and it let it run until it dies. This will only take 2-3 seconds because it will be running off of the leftover gas in the lines.
Turn off the truck after it runs out of gas.
3. Remove the gas cap to relieve any extra pressure in the gas tank.
4.Jack the truck up enough to get underneath the drivers side. I jacked it up about 1 foot so I had room to maneuver.
Towards the rear of the cab you will see this, the left side is the inlet(from the tank in the rear) and the right side is the outlet(towards the engine)
5. "Look at the connectors on the hoses attached to the filter ends. See the two little plastic squares? Push those in to remove the lines from the filter. Kind of like a childproof cap on medicine bottles. I suggest removing the inlet hose (the one that comes over the top of the filter) first. That way you can leave the outlet hose connected and reduce your fuel loss. Have a rag handy because you will lose fuel from both the hose and the filter."(Sarge)
I lost about 1/4 cup from the inlet side and then 1/4 cup from the outlet side. There was roughly 1/4 cup in the filter itself!
6. If the new filter has plastic clips take them off, you will not need them.
7. Make sure the filter goes on the correct way, inlet on the left side and outlet on the right side. It should slide into the holding bracket and sit nice and tight. Also make sure when reconnecting the lines that you hear a click so you know each side is locked on tight.
8. Now lower the truck, put the fuse back in and screw on the gas cap.
9.Inspect for leaks. Turn the ignition to the ON position with the truck off and let it sit for a few seconds. Inspect for leaks one more time. By priming the fuel line like this it will make sure that fuel is in the lines. Repeat this step twice and the truck will start right up![/QUOTE]
