Loud Blower Motor

My blower motor is getting louder and louder over the past few months. I already installed the cover per the TSB about noise, but that only worked for a little while. It's not debris or leaves. It sounds like the damn thing is falling apart. Has anyone else had this issue? I may have to go ahead and replace it.

Mine is starting to make a little ticking noise on 1 and 2. Nothing like what you are talking about. If I crank it up to 4 and back, the noise is gone. I got about 50,000 miles on it already. Someone here will probably have an answer for you. Good luck. Maybe replace the blower. That sucks.

Yeah, mine started as some noise on 1 and 2, but nothing on 3 and 4. There was only a little noise on 2, now its obnoxious. The sound insulator that GM put a TSB out for doesnt really block it out.

More than likely bearings but I don't know about that greasing comment. Most bearings now-days are the sealed type that can't be externally lubed and don't require additional lube throughout their life. I spoke to an engineer from Timkin at a trade show who told me they don't even reccomend greasing sealed bearings on equipment that have zerk fittings for that purpose!

mine has been making a interment high pitched squeaking noise on 1 and 2 if I turn it to 4 then back it goes away, this happens only every couple of days, I don't have the TSB cover installed yet, but I figure that is only "masking" the problem, anybody tried squirting some Teflon grease on it? I am afraid the whole truck will smell like grease when I turn the fan on! My truck only has 25,000 miles and it is an 04, with no a/c

i had the same problem as you guys did, i just took the blower out last night and used di-electric grease on the bushings and on the main shaft that attaches to the fan itself. no more squeaking! it was really driving me nuts! but i took the whole thing apart down to the electro-magnetic fan motor, works great now! i dont know if there is a how-to but i could work on doing one if there isnt one already

Is it like a little flapping/ticking type sound on 1 and 2? Like some leaves are hitting the fan blade? Mine does this too, but i rarely use the hvac system anyway so only time i do is to defrost on high then back to off.

I was thinkin about taking the blower out and blowing compressed air through the ducts?

I'd love a how to, glad to hear it worked taking it apart and greasing it!

Thanks firefightincolorado. I installed the cover per the TSB and it barely masked the sound. Since then my fan has gotten worse and is just as loud as before even with the cover now. My is horrible on 1... tick tick tick tick on and on. I'll try your write-up. The question is how long do you think that the dielectric grease will work for before it has to be dissassembled and done again?
