a while ago we got a infared thermometer and of course its really fun to play with! then to make it better I watched a eric the car guy video about how you can diagnose a catalytic converter by the temperature, and that it should be roughly 100 degrees hotter on the exhaust side than the intake side.
which is what I found with the catalytic converter on our colorado. but then I decided to see what the muffler did just for fun. the intake side of the muffler was roughly 180-200 degrees and the exhaust side was 330-380 degrees. does that sound normal?? I am not worried about the temperature itself at all I am just curious if the temperature difference is normal.
next time I drive my 96 k1500 I am going to check the temps and just compare them. it is running 2 3 inch cherry bomb glass packs with no cats, dual 2.25 pipes with an H pipe.
