OEM Radio Swap?

My Colorado has the base radio without XM, CD, AUX, or any other feature we've come to expect in new cars. I can connect my phone to bluetooth for calls, but, I cannot stream music. I'd like to swap an OEM radio in, if at all possible, to get the bluetooth streaming. If it had an aux port, that'd be even better.

I'd like to avoid anything with a touch screen and all of the aftermarket examples I've seen remind me of the cheap radios kids swapped into their cars in the pre- Fast and Furious days.

If I can swap, what can I swap in that requires minimum rewiring?

Put in a high quality aftermarket H.U. And speakers... Paying to have the OEM replacement is not worth the cost to upgraded quality you would be getting by paying the dealership to tie it to your VIN... Bite the bullet and get a good stereo... You won't regret it... I know I love my Kenwood system in the 355... Good luck with your project !!!

You need to check out Crutchfield. Been using them for almost 20 years. Visit their website. Whether you order online or over the phone they'll hook you up with all the wiring, adapters, and even provide installation instructions with photos.

Swapping out a head unit is a fairly painless process.

And to answer your original question, all aftermarket head units are going to require a wiring harness. But as long as you can color match wires you'll be ok.

Oh... If you don't see nothing on Crutchfield that you like.... Get a AM 6 Volt system and just listen to the wind noise when you roll down the window !!! LOL

I also like the simplicity/look of the oem radio, big round knobs, one for volume, one for channels, bass, treble and mids, all easy access. I find the single din models just don't cosmetically look good with truck. The double-dins are super nice, but pricy and I don’t like push button screens or the tiny knobs that most come with. its all personal preference ...

There is mod on the Camaro/Corvette forums to add an aux jax to gm oem radio. There was also a guy on ebay that installs this mod for $55, not sure if he still does. I need to check into this, as I also want to listen to Pandora from my 4s …

I'm very happy with my Kenwood double din. It's a touch screen but still has the volume knob which I like. I don't think it's too flashy either. The fact is modern vehicles are going to touchscreen so it's only a matter of time before you can't get away from it.
