2005 GMC Canyon, 319XXX miles, 4WD/Offroad Package,

Background:
Rear End has started making a ping on takeoff (moderate to hard acceleration). Saw a small puddle when leaving for work recently, investigated, and found it was rear end oil/grease. Checked the rear end and found the pinion seal appeared to be leaking fluid and said fluid was slung everywhere underneath.

Questions:
Would a clogged vent cause this?
If not, are there any other items that would commonly be overhauled while replacing the pinion seal? (Fluid change, bearings, etc.)

After a busy weekend with other projects, here’s the update. Completely pulled all the gear oil out, replaced the pinion seal, and put new oil in. Gear oil was relatively clean although chocolate milk colored, no excess play in the gears etc. I checked the U-joint, and didn’t find anything inherently wrong.

looking at the old pinion seal I really couldn’t find anything wrong with it though however, no new leaks in the past few days.
