I know there is good how to by KJward on this and a few other threads but I have a few questions. I'v heard it's best to sand blast the bumper first do you guys think so? Sould I have blasted with sand or another media? Also what steps do you take after blasting if blasting is need. sanding, etch primer, primer ect.

I'm planning on useing PPG Acrylic Urathaine. Yes or No?

my bumper is painted and i hate it.

you have to remove the chrome and all the plating that holds the chrome on. which means grinding the bumper with 30 grit and then primering and then paintineg.

its easier and cheaper and faster to buy a painted bumper.

ive painted mine 3 times now in 9 months.

Sandblasting with silica sand works well. Then prime and paint just like you would with bare metal.

its almost been a year since i did mine. the only thing ive notice was a scratch where the shopping cart hit the bumper. just scrapped a little bit of paint. also the little tabs on both side of the bumper. ill try to go take some pics here soon. i just finally finished my exhaust today. no more exhaust leak or CEL. yeah!

id have to disagree with pc not being shiny.

i had some wheels done and they were gloss like a motherfucker. they never dulled.

course, i baby wheels like no other.

i think powdercoating is kinda like painting. there are a wide varible of outcomes depending on the quality of the materials being used.

thats about what mine ran...

the dude who did it used sand to remove the clearcoat off one aluminum wheel tho and i could have killed him. my truck was on jack stands for fucking EVAR!!!

FUCK HARD SHELL POWDERCOATING. FUCK THEM IN THE GOATS ASS.

srslytho.

but, maybe if you gave them a call, he could point you in the right direction for gloss...?

its in clarksville, tn.

Oh, and i work in the aircraft seating industry and almost everything is PC'd and its all glossy. I believe you can get it to look like glass, textured/hammered or flat etc. Like darek said, its all about the powder.

I personally (just my opinion) think that blasting and pc'ing is the route to go OR, find a primered one off of ebay. Paint over chrome scares me and takes some good prep to make it stick. I dont think a regular ol body shop could do it correctly. I think if you did it yourself like blackmamba then it would be fine though.
